BRITNEY Spears was holed up in a Perth hotel yesterday as the row over her lip-synching concerts threatened to derail her Australian tour, The Sunday Telegraph reports.
Fans walked out after only three songs at Perth's Burswood Dome on Friday, upset by her lacklustre performance.

It's hardly news that Britney lip sync's in concert. There was a video on YouTube a long time ago of the audio feed from her microphone while she was lip syncing. It was all grunts and croaks and sounded horrid. (VIDEO).
And here is another one where a guy jumps on stage and she screams but it doesn't come through her mic because she was lip syncing. (VIDEO)
I'll never understand why anyone would pay $500 to hear a washed up kiddie pop singer.

Regarding the idiotic dance the "extras" were doing on the field around her: I realize they bring in High School dance groups as some big honor for bowl games. A few years ago my college team was playing in the Gator Bowl. We were staying in a hotel near the stadium and near The Landing, which is a great venue for a bowl game with an open area for a band and lots of bars. For several days we watched these teen age girls running loose at The Landing with drunken college kids, and even drunker (yeah really) bums from Jacksonville hanging around. There is no way their parents had any idea they were going to be running loose like that.
Most of what gets played on television is fake. Lip syncing and the use of pre-recorded backing music is almost universal. You can't get amps to break up properly and give a good clean distortion unless you drive them hard, and you can't do that in a television studio. Besides, a television appearance can make a band so why take the chance that something might go wrong?

I think it was the Hollywood culture of hedonism. A culture of perfection would probably be a good thing if Hollywood had one.

Depends on how one looks at it (pardon the pun). Hedonism goes along with it, but the emphasis seems to be on the perception of perfection. Remember Billy Crystal's song "You Look Marvelous"?

I think that lip-synching goes on way more than we think and for the most part, it is a total waste of money to see a pop concert these days. I remember getting ripped off really badly on a Pink Floyd concert some 15 years ago. It was basically like listening to my own CD while watching some really old bald-headed men putter with some instruments onstage during a laser light show.
Ironically, many of the performers who do insist upon authenticity in their concerts often have their performances panned by reviewers (i.e. Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Neil Young). People have come to expect that "slick, studio-quality" sound when going to concerts.

Speaking as a rational person, I consider any performer who's medicated to the point her product is affected and who still sells over-priced concert tickets to the unwary to be a scam artist and a thief.
Why should we cut this conniving mental case any slack at all?
I hope you never have to have a brain operation by a surgeon who's all medically drugged up but insists on performing and charging you for it, to boot. You may want to cut him some slack, also, but who knows what he'll cut on YOU!

I knew a lot of girls who went to see her when she came through town. I don’t think any of them were under the illusion that she was actually singing. They went to watch all the dancing and be reminded of middle school.
