The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to announce that the DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swore-in Kareem Shora, a devout Muslim, who was born in Damascus, Syria, as ADC National Executive Director as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).

Kareem W. Shora, JD, LLM is Director of the Legal Department and Policy with the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee (ADC). He has been with ADC as Legal Advisor since 2000 before being named to his current position.

Shora, who is fluent in Arabic, is a recipient of the “2003 American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Human Rights Award.” He has been published by the National Law Journal, TRIAL Magazine, the Georgetown University Law Center’s Journal on Poverty Law and Public Policy, the Harvard University JFK School of Government Asian American Policy Review, the American Bar Association (ABA) Air and Space Lawyer, and the Yeshiva University Cardozo Public Law, Policy and Ethics Journal. He is also a professor of Foreign Policy at the American University Washington Semester Program.

He has spoken at the National Lawyers’ Guild Annual Conference, the US Department of State International Visitor Program, the FBI Conference on Countering Terrorism by Integration of Practice and Theory, the ABA Air and Space Law Forum, the ABA Equal Justice Conference, the American University Washington College of Law, the Georgetown University Law Center, Yale University School of Law, Fordham University School of Law, Brown University, Harvard University JFK School of Government, and Whittier Law School’s 19th Annual Symposium on International Law among others. Shora is also ADC’s representative on several committees with the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) and a Steering Committee member of the Detention Watch Network (DWN) and the Rights Working Group (RWG).

A frequent guest on Al-Jazeera, Shora has spoken about civil rights, civil liberties and immigration policy with many national and international media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, Voice of America, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Associated Press, the Chicago Tribune, the Sacramento Bee, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the LA Times, the San Diego Union Tribune, National Public Radio (All Things Considered and Morning Edition), Pacifica Radio Network, Reuters, the Associated Press, C-SPAN, CNN, the Cairo Times, Al-Arabia, Egypt TV, Rolling Stone Magazine, CBS News, and ABC News among others.

Can you explain? Everything I find is so “flowery” about this guy, it sounds as tho’ he really did a super job for Los Angeles. He knew how to handle grant $$$ (WOW) and demolished the anti-terror measures in the city because they offended muslims and Bratton went along with that.

He fits in with the zero administration - supporter of Hezbollah, anti Israel, will improve image problems of the US with muslim countries. Gosh! I guess that’s what he went to law school for. Can never have enough muslims in the government.

I wonder what role he may have in the Homeland Security investigation of the Fort Hood shootings!! Sick! Sick! Sick!

I want to know how this guy slipped through the radar without causing a blip.....All of us at FR stay pretty current on DC happenings but I never heard of this guy before today.

True story from just last night.

I walked into a Taco Bell to get a quick bite while traveling.
There was probably 6 to 8 employees behind the counter. All were in Taco Bell uniforms, shirts and hats.
With ONE exception.

Behind the counter was a woman with a head scarf, and a muslim style dress, working.

I would say the Taco Bell Dog is rolling over in his grave.
Trading in the Sombrerro for a head scarf is kind of out of uniform.
Point?

Any time a Muslim comes into any position, they require compliance with THEIR beliefs at the expense of the rest of the employees. It was probably a situation where the manager was afraid NOT to hire out of fear of some kind of discrimination charge. On the other hand, if the potential employee will not comply with work rules, I say that is grounds for dismissal. Nothing is fair for the rest of the employees who wear the uniform of their job.

Point?
When a Muslim gets in a position of any type of power, they FORCE change based on their philosophy at the expense of others. So how do we resist? Just flat out say no. Tough crap. We don’t have to take it up the ying yang to comply just because someone thinks they are superior, when in fact they are just another human with no more rights than the next. If I worked there and wore a big cross around my neck do you think management would be equally tolerant to my “traditional” attire?

Both individuals bring a broad and impressive array of experience in national security, emergency preparedness and counterterrorism to the Department.
David comes from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where he founded and was Senior Fellow of the Homeland Security Program and led the Center’s programs on preventing, mitigating and responding to catastrophic terrorism and natural disasters. With more than 20 years of experience in government, the non-profit community and the private sector, he is a highly regarded expert in U.S. national security policy and international affairs.

Arif comes from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa’s office, where he served as Deputy Mayor for Homeland Security and Public Safety. As a key adviser to the Mayor, he has led the City’s efforts to develop homeland security, emergency management and law enforcement initiatives, including operational oversight of Los Angeles Police, Fire and Emergency Management departments. He is a former federal prosecutor and senior advisor to the U.S. Attorney General, and has partnered extensively with local, state and federal agencies,” said Secretary Napolitano.
Biographies

Prior to joining CSIS, Heyman was Senior Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Energy from 1998-2001. Previously, he served as Senior Policy Analyst in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Division of National Security and International Affairs, from 1995-1998, and Director of International Operations at RGTI Systems, a leading firm in industrial automation and supply-chain management, from 1992-1994. Heyman is the author of numerous publications and an adjunct professor in security studies at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Policy. He completed his graduate work at The Johns Hopkins School of International Affairs and his undergraduate work at Brandeis University.

Before serving as Deputy Mayor, Alikhan was a career prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice from 1997-2006. During that time, he served as Chief of the Cyber and Intellectual Crimes Section for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles and as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Attorney General in Washington, D.C., where he oversaw the national Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Program for the Department of Justice.
