Adam Lambert, the American Idol star, outraged viewers of the American Music Awards with an X-rated performance in which he simulated oral sex with a male dancer.
Lambert set out to shock with a risque routine which also saw him kissing a male band mate and walking two men in bondage gear across the stage on dog leads. He was singing his new release, For Your Entertainment.
After the performance, his first since American Idol, Lambert said: "I'm hoping people were entertained. For those who weren't, maybe I'm not your cup of tea."
If the show was to be censored for the West Coast broadcast, it would amount to "discrimination", he added, mentioning the famous MTV awards show in which Britney Spears and Madonna shared a kiss. "I don't mean to get political but Madonna, Britney and Christina weren't edited. It's a shame. Female entertainers have been risque for years. Honestly, there's a huge double standard."
Viewers did not see it that way, with many claiming that the performance was not fit for primetime television. The Federal Communications Commission, which regulates US television, was braced for complaints.
On Twitter and internet forums, Lambert's routine was described as "disgustingly vulgar" and "totaly inappropriate" for a time slot when children were watching. The broadcaster, ABC, also came in for criticism. "Has ABC lost their minds? How on earth do they think airing this is ok? I’m not at all impressed with Adam. More like disgusted," said one commenter on the Rolling Stone website.
Lambert posted a defiant message on his Twitter page, saying: "All hail freedom of expression and artistic integrity. :) fans: I adore u."

I guess Adam Lambert failed to realize all those previous provocative performances by female artists are the reason the FCC has clamped down on the networks, particularly their live programming. Adam and 19/Jive just used Dick Clark Productions and ABC to get buzz, no matter what the ramifications were to others. If the FCC fines ABC, I hope they pass the bill along to Adam and 19/RCA.
What the heck are people doing nowadays to pass for entertainment ? Last night’s AMA awards had Eminem performing a song with over half of the lyrics bleeped out. Then we have Adam Lambert performing this simulated act of orgy on stage which the producer ALLOWED in full view of millions of people. What does one have to do nowadays to sell records ?

It’s funny that people seem to put more credence nowadays on being able to give a visually entertaining performance. A few of those live performances were lip-synched ( I think Janet Jackson’s opening number was ).
Perhaps it’s a sign of the rapidly deteriorating attention span of the TV-viewing public. Whatever happened to simply being able to sing your socks off?

After a few days of back and forth between OUT magazine, Adam Lambert and Adam’s uber-fans — Adam talked to Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson and complains about discrimination!
He said that there is a double standard in this country if he was censored during his performance at the AMA (which he was!) because he was a man doing provocative stuff female artists have been doing for years

Yeah, nothing about this performance should have been featured on prime time. Lambert is an outstanding performer but this wasn’t appropriate at all.

I clearly remember how ’shocked’ everyone was after Madonna’s ‘Like a Virgin’ performance at the MTV Awards. The audience was in shock.
People weren’t sure whether to applaud. She may have lost best new artist to Cyndi Lauper – but it was her performance everyone was talking about – and the one everyone remembers 20 years later. Adam will be the same ( and I guess THAT was the reason why he did what he did. It’s his coming OUT party ).
He’s gonna push it as far as he can too – right up to the edge and over. Censorship’s just another item added to the list of things about Adam that he is going to INFLICT on the entertainment world.
Here’s hoping his career comes to a crashing halt ( but I wouldn’t bet my money on it. Kids nowadays love this stuff ( shaking my head in disgust ) ).

I thought it was disgusting. Simulating oral sex on a TV program that includes a large young audience is irresponsible and ABC should be held accountable.
It’s not a question of free speach, it’s a matter of having some decency and class. I’m sure the left will come to Mr. Lambert’s defense as a protected class; completely ignoring the reality that had the performance been completely hetero, it would still have been in appropriate.
Other portions of the broadcast included no-class performances- rappers having lyrics edited out for swearing, persons dressing like whores... It diminished the good to great performances on the show from artists who really should have been embarassed to have been a part of it all.
Damn. I have to admit it...I love his singing. I love the hard rock, I love the “screeching”. I just wanted to hear the voice. I can’t tolerate the in yer face “LOOK AT ME! I’m a disgusting, proud homo and I’m going to shove it all in your face” crap. It’s absolutely sickening. How sick. And how sad.

For reasons that aren't important, I frequent a website with many regular homosexual posters. One hundred percent of them were sexually abused as children. Now, this isn't a huge sample size (30-40), nor is it a statistically valid test (they do exist, though), but ONE HUNDRED PERCENT!? Yes, undoubtedly there are FReepers out there who don't fit this observation. My point isn't that there's a one size fits all for the cause of homosexuality. It is that homosexuality is a negative result.
We've turned what could and should be a private cry for help into a very public one that we're prevented from calling it what it is by looney liberals who want us to think that deep down all humans are basically good. They also edited the performance of Eminem. It sounded like dot, dot, dash on my set. If they had visual editing on Adam, my TV would have looked like a strobe light.
Where was the parental warning? Adam should have concentrated on his singing a bit more than just trying to provoke reaction.

I didn't watch that filth on TV, I did watch the NASCAR race earlier in the day, and saw the hype for the AMA'a, and except for a couple of "artist" I had never heard of any of them. I remembered the Jackson's but that was it. BTW I do have four children and they didn't know any of the them. I am so glad my TV came equipped with on ON/OFF button.
I don't watch American Idol. However, just in following what's happening with it on the periphery via FR....I think that a lot of this fool's fans were the middle-aged female "Isn't he sweet, he's just misunderstood" types.

Nah, I’m not going to watch it. I remember back in the sixties when all these “artists” were fighting for freedom of expression. In those days it might have been not having to wear a suit and tie while giving a rock and roll performance. Now these idiots claim the need for freedom to simulate oral sex on stage. In short, they don’t want any proscriptions against anything they do. So what has all this freedom given us? Morons like Lambert, that’s what.
My question is where were the people running the show and the censors that preview the show during rehearsals? Surely they rehearsed this on stage before the show and someone had to see this!
