We ca never allow it to be only what it is. Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer in the history of the game. We can’t stop there. No, he’s also the world’s greatest human.
And to suggest anything less means you’re the one with the problem. Hmmm, perhaps you even have a problem with the color of Tiger’s skin. Team Tiger, you may recall, dropped that hint, early.
So if you know what’s good for you, stick with the story, especially you TV guys: Greatest golfer, greatest human. Got it? Now don’t forget it.
But the world’s greatest golfer has a lot in common with all of us. He has character flaws. We’re just not supposed to know that the world’s greatest human is human.
NBC News’ Kristen Dahlgren on Saturday, described Woods as the man with the “golden touch and sterling reputation.” Of course, she did. Why would she think or report otherwise?
It comes as thin surprise that Woods and Team Woods have been less than cooperative with authorities in the three days following his 2:25 a.m. domestic car wreck/whatever the heck happened. From the time he was 15, he was taught to beat the rules.

I remembet that Nike PC Ad and had the barf bag out. I heard similiar stories about what a jerk Tiger’s caddie is but two huge ego jerks together make a great “pair”.
I really can’t give a rip about this guy. Too many other more important things going on beyond Tiger.

Sad that America puts athletes up as heroes. Clearly, we are the real frauds.
These morons are making me sympathetic again towards Woods. I couldn’t care less about his personal life and as long as Woods and his wife are not brawling all the time, I think the state of FL should leave them alone. Having a fight now and then is hardly unusual for couples.
It is pretty lame to start piling on Tiger. Of course he is human. I pray for him and his family to work out these issues.

They just love to build them up and then cut ‘em down when they prove to be human. It is all about ratings, they could give a hang for these humans except for the income they are able to generate using their names.
The cult of celebrity is the modern form of idolatry. Nowadays, the images aren't carved in stone, and the communicants don't offer goats and chickens, but the new idolatry works the same way as the old.
Whatever Woods is or isn’t, this mush from the SludgeMedia says nothing other than they think they have a gotcha story.
Bruises, cuts, scratches, golf clubs through windows and wrecked automobile, fire hydrants and trees ending with an ambulance ride to the emergency room - what kind of couples are you hanging out with? Alec Baldwin, is that you?
The important thing to remember is that the article is as much about liberal fabrication and political correctness. Tiger, Obama, minorities and liberals in general? All untouchable and far more worthy of praise (and protection) than the rest of us.
I suggest you ask Fuzzy Zoeller about it.
Team Tiger is much to blame for all the attention on what happened as the media. Tiger earns earns huge amounts of money for endorsements, has his own tournament already named after him, and used his fame to get a Congressional earmark for his center in Orange County, (yes we ponied up for his Tiger Woods Learning Center). The cost of all this fame is you lose your privacy in today’s culture. If he wanted a more private life he could of just played golf but no he wanted to be one of the most recognizable names in sports.

I think that's right. It's just not in today's modern society, where the ubiquity and saturation of the media is so complete, but it goes back centuries. Before the sports stars of th 20th century, we had the outlaws of the wild west. And before that, we had the Indians and the men who chased them. And before that - for an all too brief period - we had actually heroes, the Founding Fathers and the Generals of the American Revolution.

That’s what I was thinking....
Well, I'm not sure if I'd put it quite as benignly as that. But, be that as it may, no it doesn't make him an awful guy. But, as the author of the piece points out, it makes him something quite contrary to what the media and commercial establishment wanted us to believe he was - perfect.
Whatever problems Tiger and his Wife faced last week, he's only compounding them now. There's a a sentiment of populist outrage in America right now - rich people getting away with things the average wouldn't. While an attorney would tell him to keep his mouth shut, in the long run, that might be the worse decision he could make.
Tiger strikes me as being similar to the late Ted Williams in his total dedication to his craft. Nobody would seriously want to emulate Ted Williams in anything but his ability to hit a baseball. His personal life was a disaster and he could really nurse a grudge — just ask any sportswriter.
I know nothing of golf, and less about Tiger, but the passion the media has for deifying their black heroes sounds familiar.
