Based on today perhaps the Cincy QB picked up some Heisman support.

I like Tony Pike, but my pick off of that team would be Mardy Gilyard. IMO, he's been the real heart and soul of the team, and should have been pushed harder in the Heisman talk...

disclaimer: Tim Tebow is a great kid, a devout Christian and a remarkable athlete. No one has run up and down the sideline doing the Gator Chomp better than he, no one has torn off their helmet, running and cheering, or mimic-ed cellphone usage (and no penalty) with more elegance and passion than he. No one has fired up and led their team as he, or been as good a person as he. We all are dim in the shadow of his perfection. You and I will never be as good a person as Tim Tebow.

I even read that his tears cure cancer! (but I don't believe it)

So, are we good now? Is it ok for Alabama to celebrate our victory?? (posted out of frustration encountered on facebook, lol)

Yep. Next year we’ll have a real passing QB. Not to knock Tebow, but Brantley is going to be real good.

Back in the day I think the SEC champ went to the Orange Bowl while old SWC champ went to the Cotton Bowl.

SEC Champ went to the Sugar Bowl back in the day.

****SEC Champ went to the Sugar Bowl back in the day.****

If that's true why did LSU go to the Orange Bowl in 1970 (1/1/71) and why did Alabama play Nebraska (both were ranked 1 and 2) in the 1972 Orange Bowl (1/1/73).

OK maybe an SEC historian can annswer this question but there seems like there are some years (especially in the 60’s and early 70’s) when the SEC champ played in the Orange Bowl and then there were other years when they played in the Sugar Bowl. For example in 1971 Alabama won the SEC but went to the Orange Bowl to play #1 ranked Nebraska. Perhaps the SEC had a clause an SEC champ could opt out of the Sugar Bowl to play in another bowl for the national championship.

The old Big 8 had a tie-in to the OB back in the day.

that is probably why LSU played there (in 1971, after the 1970 season) and Bama played there in ‘72- because both games were for the national championship and involved Big 8 teams.

To clarify the above, Nebraska was involved in both of those games.

Never underestimate how scared the BCS powerhouses are of non BCS schools.

The winner of the Fiesta Bowl is the National Champion.

Oh, trust me, I’m fully aware of it.

I would have to say that whomever wins the Fiesta could make a claim to it.

Before the SEC hooked up with the Sugar Bowl the Orange Bowl was considered the second most prestigious bowl behind the Rose Bowl.
