Here are five suggestions for how to bring the network back:
1. Part ways with Jeff Zucker -- or at least ban him from any oversight of the network. ... Take out the performance of the broadcast network, and Zucker's tenure at the Peacock has seen plenty of successes (and profits).
...
But this story is about what can be done to save the NBC television network. Zucker has done far more harm than good to that part of the business.
...
2. Don't make any hard and fast rules. The last decade at NBC has been marked by a series of epic pronouncements from on high about the future of television: ...
NBC needs to stop trying to fashion itself as radical reformer of the broadcasting business and should instead get back to its basic mission: entertaining viewers with the best possible programming.
3. Become the HBO of broadcast TV. ...a network of ambitious, extraordinary and critically worshipped programs.
...
4. Move Jay Leno to 8 p.m.....make him the ringmaster of a big, funny variety show -- an Ed Sullivan for our times? Why not introduce some reality show concepts as regular features,....
5. Think like a loser, spend like a drunken sailor -- and expect recovery to take a while. ...
There's simply no quick path back to ratings glory. Networks are built show by show.
The Moonves and McPherson models also demand network chiefs act as if they have nothing to lose. And, perhaps, an unlimited amount of cash to spend.
... NBC in recent years has been all about maximizing profits and minimizing creative risk-taking. It was a philosophy that fit well for a network wholly owned by GE.
...
Otherwise, Comcast might as well just pull the plug and let the Peacock die with dignity.

1) Dismantle MSNBC and deny any association.
2) Reparations for those slandered - OK, at least apologies.
3) Get Matt Laur hair implants.
4) Bring Bryant Gumble and Katie Curic back (just kidding! Checking to see if you read my comments)
Except for sports and perhaps 1 show that might interest me I do not even bother watching the Big Networks.
Bring back My Name is Earl (on of the few network shows I watch)
All 30 Rock all the time.
2) stop ending popular shows like Chuck
3) stop crap tv, reality shows etc
Every night on the news, Katie gets a colonoscopy.
There’s a new show called the League that has Catalina
playing a wife. Her running around in her Club Chubby
uniform couldn’t save the show. We enjoy the reruns.
I want to go to there.
My thoughts: end the clear, overwhelming leftist bias that pervades every show on that network. When ‘The Biggest Loser’ went to The White House a few weeks ago and worshiped Michelle’s “garden,” I almost had to find a barf bag.
Switch Conan and Leno back to their original time slots and shows. I loved the late night Conan Show in NYC, but he is AWFUL on The Tonight Show. It is truly painful to watch. And from what I’ve read about the ratings, I’m not the only one who thinks so.
They dumped Earl, a quite popular show. They dumped Medium, another show. One of the few other truly funny shows they had Scrubs, is now on another network.
They killed Crossing Jordan a few years back, it had some diehard fans, of which I was one.
So now all they got is Office, which IMHO belongs in the trash, and Dateline, which is ok. Next year maybe they will bring us “Law and Order - Preschool”
Back away from the chalk, punk!
And Leno absolutely positively does not work at ten. Not five days a week. Maybe two, but not five.
Get rid of the 10pm time slot. Allow local NBC affiliates to move their late night newscasts into it instead.
Do rebroadcasts of popular prime time shows in the early AM hours so that people who are recording multiple shows during prime time can record rebroadcasts of shows that they miss.
I pretty much stopped watching TV shows cause the networks cancel anything that I like.
Put in someone who is fair and balanced instead of Brian Willims (celebrated 5 years) on the evening anchor desk.
Willims = Williams
Replace the daytime/evening lineup at MSNBC with the old flickering pattern.
Sign up every NBC Employee for the Comcast Triple Play
Immediately, if not sooner, fire Steve Capus as president of NBC news. He is an out-of-control leftwing moron who has turned the network into an on-air sanitarium for demented hacks and harpies. If Capus doesn’t go post haste, you’ll know the new owners are not serious about making a profit.
I love the office, but this season is jumping the shark
Chuck actually got an extended order for this season. I think they are up to 18 or 19 from the original 13.
I’m glad they found a way to keep Friday Night Lights on the air partnering with DirecTV but I hate having to wait so long on the new season.
Start a rumor that Keith Olberman is Anderson Coopers man toy so CCN will hire Olberman and half the footbal loving nation will once again watch Sunday Night Football.
I don’t get that show at all.
They are all obviously miserable. And a bunch of miserable people sniping and being all smarmy isn’t humor in my book.
Remember, we’re talking about a network that brought us things like “Cheers” and “Frasier” and “Friends”.
“Office” doesn’t even come close.
To move Leno back to would cost Comcast more than it will cost Tiger to keep his wife!
Medium is doing VERY WELL on CBS now :)
Oh and remember when Scrubs moved to ABC, NBC said it was just to finish out its run. LOL. Scrubs got signed for another season :)
That I will watch using netflicks or Hulu.
Ahh yes...NBC also canceled Freaks and Geeks. Shall we look at the cast for that show?

Just do a search on those names to see how huge they became oh and it was produced by a young guy named UHH Judd Apatow. You know, the guy who made The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Funny People. He has also produced films such as Superbad, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Step Brothers and Pineapple Express.
NBC said they “lost faith in his vision”.
That is all that needs to be said about NBC.
Reminds me when Decca turned down the Beatles because “guitar bands have no future.”
Hire Rush Limbaugh to do the evening news.
I haven’t watched network TV or any other TV in 21 years.I don’t own one. I don’t borrow one either.
Hire Rush to do an hour immediately following the Evening News
EXACTLY! Great decisions in modern history.
You beat me to it, but yeah you simple axe the divisions that don't make money.
I don't see how a network like MSNBC stays on the air with only 500,000 or so viewers.
Hulu is going behind a pay wall now.
Get rid of Keith Olberman, Rachel Madcow and Chrissy Matthews!!!!
You are a master strategist!
They own Hulu
Rush should have bought NBC!
You got yourself a controlling interest in Obot Central - MSNBC - the mindless celebrity-fawning stupidity of E! and the fudge-packing superpower of "gayness", BRAVO.
Loads of work to do to turn those crappy channels into something that normal thinking Americans actually would want to watch. Hope you're up to the task!
In the meantime, the "block" feature of the cable box works great!
