Tiger Woods' Doctor Tony Galea Linked to Banned Doping Drugs HGH and Actovegin
NY Daily News ^ | 12/14/09 | Michael O'Keeffe, Teri Thompson and Nathaniel Vinton

The Canadian doctor who performed a controversial medical procedure on Tiger Woods is under criminal investigation for drug violations on both sides of the border, bringing scrutiny to his colleagues, including one who worked closely with BALCO athletes and Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez.

Dr. Tony Galea was arrested in October and his Toronto clinic was raided by Canadian authorities after his assistant was detained at the U.S.-Canadian border and reportedly found to be in possession of illegal drugs, including human growth hormone (hGH) and Actovegin - a drug extracted from calf's blood that has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Galea flew to Woods' Windermere, Fla., home at the request of his agents to treat the golfer earlier this year with his platelet-rich plasma injection therapy, also known as "blood spinning."

Galea has attracted a mystique in sports medicine circles for his advocacy of the process, which involves spinning blood in a centrifuge and reinjecting it into injured joints in the hope of accelerating healing.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman said charges against Galea are expected to be filed on Friday in a Toronto courtroom, and while an attorney for Galea told the Daily News that his client is innocent of any wrongdoing, U.S. anti-doping officials said that Galea is "definitely on our radar." U.S. law enforcement officials are also believed to be investigating Galea.

Galea and Mark Lindsay, a Canadian chiropractor who treated Woods and managed Rodriguez's rehabilitation this summer from hip surgery, are principals at a Toronto clinic called Affinity Health.

Lindsay also treated ex-Yankee pitcher Chien-Ming Wang, who was recovering from a hip injury, this year. He has worked with former NFL star Bill Romanowski, and sprinters Tim Montgomery and Marion Jones, who all testified in front of the grand jury that investigated the Bay......

Like I’ve said on these threads, I saw Woods at a tournament this year and his body was all muscle, just one big mass of it. When he was in college and even starting as a pro he was a skinny guy. Maybe they can get this doctor to talk about Woods and his other patients in return for a deal on his newly minted legal problems.

Steroids increase your sex drive. What about Human Growth Hormone and Actovegin? That's what the doctor is being investigated for.

That’s unless one of his woman’s name was “Gym”, maybe short for Gymoveive.

This may be why Woods is in hiding, he knew that once the private life stuff began to roll out that there would be other areas which would open up to reporters and quick-buck artists that “befriended” him.

When will the PGA test him for steroids. Tiger is a jucier. Hilarious that non-juicers and good guy slike Nick Watney and Phil are longer off the tee than Tiger the juicer.

If Tiger was not doing roids he would be as long as Furyk, Brain Gay or Corey Pavin who are great golfers but are not long enough. The roids would also along Tiger to control the ball better and hit through the rough.

Got to love it that Phil beat his a*s at 7 tourneys this year even after Phil took two months off to help his sick wife. Phil is 7 years older and pounds the ball further. He just bulks up and does power lifting.

Phil pawned Tiger in Shanghai HSBC where Mr. Steroid sprayed balls in the water twice on the last two holes. Nick Watney also blasted past him.

Tiger is a fraud and the PGA are bigger whores than the s*uts Tiger pays for sex. Tiger is another Barry Bonds or McGuire - a cheat, The PGA reefuses to test him for Roids and Tiger was terrified the FL cops would make him take a blood test. He is a juicer.

...Yup. Body counteracts all the extra test by reducing the natural output, this the side effect.
But, there are other meds that counter that, I believe a female fertility drug, so there shouldn’t be any shrinkage.

But, I doubt Tiger is taking steroids. Guessing something like HGH, with an advanced masking agent.

We’ve seen this story before, with BALCO, Clemons, A-Rod, etc. Why does Tiger need a foreign Dr. to come to his home for some special treatment? Couldn’t be done anywhere else? Mayo? That hospital he visited twice a couple of weeks ago?

It is so obvious. The PGA is blind and dumb. Golf has been around for 400 years and the pGA have sold out the game for this clown. It really really sucks when you see honest guys busting their a*s like Phil, Nick Watney, Lucas, Zack, Hunter and a bunch more who do it the honest way. The PGA and Golf Channel treat them like second class citizens.

The extra muscle improves stamina, club control etc. So obvious to with his roid rage of swearing and throwing clubs. He has disgraced golf. When is the PGA going to do their job? Disgraceful.

If he is caught, he may be finished or may get a pass like A-Rod. Net Jets (Warren Buffett) is pals with A-Rod and Tiger. Net-Jets is staying with Tiger.

'Obviously you are not a golfer'

The only drugs Tiger Woods is using are whatever he's taking to deal with the pain in his knee. Although steroids might help a person swing a driver hard enough to hit a ball 400 yards, they won't help you sink a 40 foot putt or help you with any other golf shots required to play 18 holes and break 100 much less break 70 consistently.

Clomid. Functions as an estrogen blocker in men, and also elevates production of follicle stimulating hormone and leutenizing hormone, which leads to an increase in natural testosterone production. It's sometimes prescribed to men with fertility problems as well.

Probably people in the PGA and in the tournament structure know about the roids, or at least have talked about the real possibility, but everyone is afraid to act on it. Guess again.

What say your short game is already great? And what say a long drive means that your second shot to the green is no longer a two or a three iron but a 9 iron or a pitching wedge on a par 4 and you can get to the green in 2 shots on a par 5? It means that par 5's are now regulation birdies and possible eagles.

When you're firing in your second shot with a pitching wedge, your chances of stopping it dead, right by the hole rise logarithmically.

You think that's inconsequential to a PGA Tour player?

Length is not everything on today's PGA Tour but it's almost everything.

I think it was Snead who was using the “F” word every time he missed a make-able putt and two women complained to a tournament official. The official went with the women and started following Snead as he played and sure nuff Snead missed a 6’ putt and used the “F” word. The official walked up to Snead and said “there is a $100 fine for using profanity in this tournament.” Snead said “OK” and pulled out a roll of one hundred dollar bills and peeled off 3 one hundred dollar bills and gave them to the offical. The official said “no Mr. Snead I said $100.” Snead said “ No that's the correct amount” Snead then turned and pointed to one of the women and said “F... YOU” and then turned and pointed to the other woman and said “F... YOU TOO”

That begs the question though: why then would Tiger spend so much time and energy to get so much bigger and stronger if there really isn't much benefit? A transformation like what he has gone through, where he is almost unrecognizable from the way he looked at 25, requires a huge amount of dedication (working out 3 or 4x a week, eating the right foods at the right time, taking protein powders, etc.) unless you take some shortcuts.

That is a good question and I have been wondering about the answer

You don’t see other pros going that route

Maybe he likes looking in the mirror at his bod

BTW Lately his face was looking bloated and he also looked like he was packing it on around the gut

When he said he was going to break Jacks records I told my friends let’s wait and see how his body holds up under the pressure of the PGA type golf swing —I thought his back would go but it was his knee that gave out —And he is lucky they have such great reconstruction methods today

On second thought

When he was a beanpole and REALLY long the swing was probably causing all the knee problems

Maybe he felt with the roids he could cut down on the swing intensity sparing his knee but still having the distance

But then why haven’t the rest of the tour tried that route

It sure became endemic in FB and BB
