The "Arbeit macht frei" sign stolen from Auschwitz in southern Poland has been found in the north and five men are being questioned by police.
The five suspects, aged in their 20s and 30s, were not members of a neo-Nazi group, Krakow police said.
The metal sign from the main gate, which symbolises for many the atrocities of Nazi Germany, had been cut into three pieces, they added.
A major search was launched after the sign was stolen before dawn on Friday.
Andrzej Rokita, the local police chief in Krakow - where the men were being questioned - said the theft had been financially motivated, and it remained unclear whether it was carried out to order.....

This symbol, probably one of the most important of the past century, can be put back in its place
What kind of sickos would do this? I’m glad they recovered the sign. Some may question why Poland went overboard in declaring this a National Emergency, but one has to understand just how sensitive they are to any kind of criticism over the handling of items related to The Holocaust, especially when there are plenty of ignorant fools out there that actually believe Poles ran the camps.
Dime to donuts they are muslims.
This is the second article I’ve seen and the identities of the men seems strangely absent (just that they AREN’T neo-nazis).
There is a video clip of 2 of the men being brought into custody but no details.
Doesn’t it seem odd..that the 2nd guy was in the police car with no hand cuffs on? They put the cuffs on when unknown, unidentified person exited the vehicle
The cameraman made sure the world saw the color of the skin that the handcuffs went on....or am I reaching here?
Skin color tells me nothing about the motives. What color were the butchers at the Beslan massacre?
