Does 'Avatar' Contain Hidden Messages?
Yahoo Movies ^ | 12-23-09 | Brett Michael Dykes

Since it opened last week, James Cameron's much-anticipated film "Avatar" has won praise from movie critics and been a juggernaut at the box office. But some who have seen the film say that it contains hidden messages that are anti-war, pro-environment, and perhaps even racist.

For the benefit of those who haven't seen the film, a little nonspoiler background might be useful. The story is set in the year 2154 when Earth's inhabitants, having used up most of their natural resources through decades of living in excess, plan to use military force to conquer Pandora, a moon roughly the same size as Earth. Pandora, inhabited by a wise, peaceful, and nature-respecting people with blue skin called the Na'vi, is rich in a resource that the people of Earth desperately need. The earthlings send in a crew of special-forces mercenaries armed with guns, bombs, and other sophisticated weaponry to attack and conquer the Na'vi (who some think resemble American Indians and Africans), despite the fact that they represent no direct threat to the inhabitants of Earth. Since humans can't breathe in Pandora's atmosphere, the military employs mind-controlled avatars that resemble the Na'vi in every way to venture out from their landing craft and explore the landscape. Sympathizing with the Na'vi after becoming acquainted with them and their customs, one of the human-controlled avatars becomes a turncoat and helps lead the people of Pandora in the defense of their homeland.

The line of the human in the avatar, Jake Sulley, praying to Ewah, alien mother of the world, “We killed our mother, please help us to protect you”.

The premise for his article is false..

Humans were exploiting a mineral on Pandora.

I’d say that’s pretty overt.

"Hidden?"

Bad, mean, pillaging, destructive Americans (er...Earthmen) invading and destroying peace loving peoples and taking their respources everywhere. Left swill and spin straight from Code Pink. Nothing hidden about it.

Ignoring history and making a lie and mockery of it for their own leftist/socialist/marxist politics which, in truth, are the real representation fo the very ills they project on the nation and people who have brought the most peace, prosperity, and freedom to mankind in recorded history.

"...James Cameron himself hasn't been shy in publicly proclaiming the fact that he's an environmental activist who believes that humans and "industrial society" are "causing a global climate change" and "destroying species faster than we can classify them..."

This the same James Cameron who used how many supercomputers consuming how many kilowatts of power operated by how many animators driving how many cars to work in studios consuming how much heating, lighting, and cooling power to create a movie that was shown in how many theaters consuming how much power attended by how many people that drove how many cars to see said movie?

Oh, and I assume he'll be driven in a limo to accept his awards...

I went and saw this for the CGI effects, which were indeed impressive.
The leftist, anti-capilist, eco-drivle was piled high and deep.....not hidden or subtle at all.

In his review on the website Hot Air, Ed Morrissey writes, "Conservatives have more or less primed themselves to hate this film because of the presumed anti-war politics of the movie. It's there -- in fact, it's unmistakable -- but it's not as bad as one might presume."

Useful idiot.

I’ve seen it and thought it fairly dripped with new age metaphysical symbolism. Virtually every conceivable greenie cliche was well represented from the evil capitalists to the noble savages. To say these messages were “hidden” is like calling Everest a hill.

I saw the film and was blown away by the 3-D technology. This is the future of filmmaking. After seeing this film, every other 'regular' film on the big screen will seem ordinary.

That said, the anti-US and anti-Marine message of the film made me want to puke. The other people with me were unhappy with it also. It was definitely an anti-US soldier message, that the US Marines were gung-ho killers.

BTW, the entire army of nasties were all Caucasian except for a brief shot of one Afro-American and that came late in the killing spree. That always annoys me, esp. when the three major 'good guys' who join our hero in the fight are one each: Black, Hispanic and Caucasian.

No matter how great the CGI, I refuse to pay actual money for the "privilege" of having leftest propaganda rammed into my brain, money that I actually earned the good 'ol fashioned way of actually working.

I say, "Starve the Beast, read a book from your local library instead!"

Decided not to see it either after reading the true “plot”. But on another note, my sister went in Palm Beach and said that the audience applauded at the end...

This guy hasn’t seen the movie. The “messages” aren’t hidden at all. They’re right out in the open.

Here's James Cameron being quoted in the article:

...humans have a "terrible history" of "entitlement" in which we "take what we need" from nature and indigenous peoples "and don't give back."

This Gaia nonsense is getting out of hand. Nature is not a person whom one can "give to" and "take from." There is no real economy or even reciprocity.

If this continues, I forsee human blood sacrifice in our future. I mean, we gotta give something back to Nature, right?

If a movie/TV show even has a hint of being anti American or anti Troops, I wont waste one minute on it.
I have too little free time to be bothered. Would rather play with the cat or watch old Tv shows on DVD.
