The premiere of the opera War and Peace, to take place in Glasgow later this month, will not only be staged on a staggering scale, but a world first for Sergei Prokofievs original score, reconstructed without its Soviet-era political editing, has never before been staged.

You have to wonder if “War and Peace” would have been so highly acclaimed if it was released under it’s original name, “War- What Is It Good For?”
I'm certainly looking forward to the reviews and to hearing some of the music.
Prokofiev is not very much my cup of vodka. Although he was a prolific writer and a courageous modernist in his work, I find the dissonance in a lot of his music to be off-putting. I wonder if I could take three hours of an opera by him.
It was hard enough to get through Tolstoy's book!
