If one of you beer brewers would like to share his hobby with me, I will bring the guitar, and tx_eggman will cook us a smoked brisket on his favorite outdoor utensil.
Too bad you are in the Great State of Texas.
I would gladly assist if you were just a little less than 1500 miles away.....
Any member of the Homebrewers Ping List live in Texas that would like to trade brew for beef?
Cheers,
knewshound

Very nicely presented thread GonzoII, and no half naked girls to ruin it, lol. Love THIS old photo, looks like the 1950's.

But he’s a manly super-nerd. Besides, if the SHTF, amatuer radio is a widespread communication network that would survive most catastrophies or efforts to suppress it.

Mine is a ham radio operator, he also teaches basic electronics to new hams a few times a year (former communications teacher at one of the local community colleges and 20 year Navy Vet in electronic teaching). We do the St Jude Marathon and a Christmas parade as a couple (he operates his ham gear and I sit and give moral support and hot coffee). We are both DIYers, currently in the process of doing his ancient bathroom and putting in a new kitchen stove which is requiring cabinet modifications. He tinkers with cars too.
He can do the grill thing and make wonderful waffles.
My hobby is quilting, a lot of it is for charity purposes along with quilts for my family members.
I like power tools and am learning to use them, makes it an equal opportunity thing as I sure lack the muscle power to do it otherwise.

Ham radio is manly? My impression of that hobby is that it attracts the kind of man that would go to a Star Trek convention. You know, a super-nerd
Nerdy yes, but I also enjoy most of the rest of the manly hobbies on that list, including knitting
My girls also participate in well over half of that list.

Many of the Hams work with the Boy Scouts, do field days where they camp out and make contact with other Hams all over the world, work parades, marathons, walks for different organizations like cancer, diabetes, etc. Many are involved in disaster assistance drills..because when the phone lines and cell towers go down then you have to have some other form of communication besides smoke signals.
The club hubby belongs to does all this and many build much of their own special items for their hobby. They come from all professions, wood workers, cabinet makers, automechnics, plumbers, police officers, retired Military, teachers, hubby's club even has an OB/GYN and a retired chef.

Theyre either occupations or household chores Sometimes it just feels good to go and plant another tree. I never considered taking care of the grounds a chore or an occupation, more like a pleasant way to spend some time.
Now, gardening per se, I can see how it can be wussified, however, being able to grow one's own food sufficiently to sustain one's self and family, I can get behind, manly or not.
Afer all, need some veggies along side the venison on the plate.
