Is anyone else been having problems with Firefox freezing up on them? not shutting down? not responding?

I remember when I first started using Firefox, it ran rock solid. I happilynupdated to newer versions when they became availiable. But over the last handful of versions, i've found that it has been freezing up and not reponding, with an increasing frequency. And with each new vwersion, it's mostly bug and security fixes.. but I just loaded up thne newest version today, and in less than a hour, I found myself, one again, having to use the task manager to shut the non responding Firefox prg down.

Is anyone else expiriencing this?

I haven’t downloaded GoogleChrome because I hate the way the google toolbar shows up in my browser even though I say no, no, 1000 times no!

Silly reason, I know. So it does work great?

I have XP pro, Firefox 1.9.1.3593, McAfee security center 9.15, virus scan 13.15, personal firewall 10.15, backup and restore 3.15, and parental control 11.15 (disabled.) Firefox crashed so many time that I removed it about a month after I installed it this summer. It hated tabs. It would lock up for about a minute, then shut down. This happened daily.

I get an "Address Not Found"

Had the same maddening problem to the point of insanity over the past week. Received an "important update" this morning from Firefox. BIG improvement.

I have a different problem with Firefox (XP). If I close it down and try to restart it almost immediately, it will refuse to run. I might have to try 5 or 6 time before it will actually start up again. If I let it rest for a while after I close it, it will start normally. It has been this way for quite some time. No freeze problems, though. Anyone else have this problem?

How much available memory have you got? It sounds like the prog is using mem-cache on the HD. It takes a bit on a XP box to reset it, slower HD’s slower reset.. It takes about 3 secs on my vista machine but I run a lot of stuff and use more than two Gs of mem just to start it. I need 4 G's really...

Yes, I’m having problems too. Months ago I downloaded the latest version (at the time). My task manager will tell me that it is using 100% CPU usage.

If I walk away from the computer for a couple of minutes and then start using the mouse again, firefox freezes up. It’s a pain.

I wrote a message/question on their help board on a thread where others were having the same problem. They blew it off. Said the problems must be individual not systematic. Said to download the latest version and to change/check your user profile. I haven’t gotten around to screwing around with it.

Sometimes if I close firefox then try to open it again it will tell me the program is still running even though it is not listed as running in task manager application tab. I click on the process tab from the task manager and shut the firefox.exe down. Then open firefox again and it opens.

I suggest that you do the following, checking after every step to see if it solves the problem:

(1) Run comprehensive scans and cleanups for security, adware, and malware issues;

(2) Run a registry repair utility, such as Free Windows Registry Repair;

(3) Uninstall any extensions you have, then reinstall selectively to identify any bad ones you need to avoid.

Yeah, that's a crash.

Over the past couple years there have been a lot of issues cause by third party apps who I swear are intentionally not updating for MS security changes and upgrades. Flash, java, adobe, and some others have not kept up as fast as they should, or they don't auto update and you have to go and get it from the distributer.

Adobe and flash are two major culprits, and java has a habit of not running older apps with the newer versions and you have to have the older versions as well.

Just some experiences......

Yep. That makes sense too.

Sometimes it crashes and a crash report comes up. Most times it just freezes/slows until it finishes processing then it works fine.

They mentioned it might have to do with plug-ins too.
