Back in the ‘70s we called this ‘expansion’ hockey - fights brought crowds! I stopped watching until The Great One appeared.
Gretzky and Bettman saved the NHL twice over.
Btw, great Flames-Canucks game last night - finally, the Canucks have a fearsome offense, even if they did lose this one.

This looks like something straight out of the LNAH...

Funny how fighting has been pushed out of main stream hockey here in North America, in favor of a faster, more “European style”, and here we have Europeans in the biggest fighting incident in hockey.
BTW, I hate the original ‘Slapshot’ movie.

Apparently, the evils of the North American “game” have corrupted the pure International sport.......

Best fight

Jaromir Jagr (ex Penguin, Capital, Ranger) took part in the festivities.
So you have to blame him for bringing his new found “corrupt American ways” back with him! 8^)

Judging by the empty seats in the arena, the owners are probably desperate for attention; gladiatorial violence is the lowest common denominator of public amusements.
The potential of a fight and the occasional toe-to-toe slugfest keeps chippy play to a minimum in this fast dangerous game. Otoh, dropping the gloves several times a game destroys the flow of the match. The NHL has a good balance these days.

That was awesome!
Two great heavyweights standing toe to toe and swinging till they can’t anymore!
Those were the good old days!

I prefer the hockey of today, where skilled players vastly outnumber the goons.
If I wanted to watch a fight, I’d turn on MMA.
