Try 22-250 instead. Light JHPs. Nothing of the slug left for forensics.

30-06 is great on wolves re forensics. Passes right through. That's assuming the shot isn't made in the midst of livestock.

Try an Accelerator round in that ‘06. 55gr Soft point at over 4K fps. I got a smallish coyote with one some years ago. Dead right in its tracks. The opposite side looked like someone had planted explosives on it. If there were any fragments of that bullet left, they were not in the carcass. Not that it matters, since there are no rifling marks on it, anyway.
