The P90X infomercial.

It's a guilt-inducing display in which a smiling 50-year-old man and several young cohorts, all rippling muscles and enthusiasm, knock out a couple of choice moves from what appears to be a scary-hard workout. That's followed by “regular” people vouching for the effectiveness of the workout, showing off their own pale, moo shu-ravaged bodies in pictures labeled “before,” and their newly rippling abs and rocky arms under “after.”

I was considering getting this. I sure would like some testimonials. I’m willing to give 100% on getting in shape. I already walk and jog, but feel like I need to do “more.”

I prefer Kettlebells. I engage all major muscle groups and maintain a strong core. My weight is stable, heart rate and blood pressure are great and strength is in the upper 20 percentile for 25 year olds. I passed my 25th birthdate many years ago..

I did it last year about this time. it is a good series of workouts. I still follow the routines, just not 6 days a week and not as hard. It is a pretty big time committment. But definately worht it. After 90 days you are probably prouder that you did it for that long than you are over your improved physique.

I’ve been doing it for a week on a low carb diet. I’ve dropped 5 lbs. so far and my arm muscles are a lot stronger. The exercises alone don’t seem that stressful, but at the 40 minute mark, you’re praying for a break.

Why can’t people just live happy, while getting older, heavier, uglier, and eventually die?(it’s GOING to happen)

I find the near obsession with ‘working out’ and physical fitness to be just silly in most cases. I can understand it with those that have health problems due to out of control weight gain or other health issues, but other than that, I just don’t see the point in it.

I’m in my early 30s, and weigh the same as I did when I graduated from high school. I’ve NEVER given a thought to what I eat, and haven’t worked out the first time. On the other hand, I know a guy that worked out since high school, had a good diet, and he got fat anyway after his mid-20s. Of course, both cases are just anecdotal, but I really wonder how much difference “physical fitness” makes. Could it be that our body is gonna do what it’s gonna do?

Having said all of that, the old cliche still applies....Eat right, stay fit, and die anyway....

As you point out later in your post, a lot of the credit can go to your ancestors, but you, sir, are a braggart :)

Go for it!! I started it last year and I love it! Unfortunately, I have yet to complete a 90 day cycle. I got to 60 and my family started getting sick. It passed around us for a month. So ... I started over. I was amazed at the difference the 2nd time around. I was doing well over twice the pullups, pushups, weight, etc. My energy level is through the roof. Then the holidays hit.

3rd time's a charm, right? I start up again next week and I can't wait!! Energy level is still up there so that's good.

But don't look at this is a size building program. Yeah, you can tweak and customize it, but it's mainly geared toward just getting in top physical shape ... losing the fat and building up strength ... not bulk.

I can totally understand working out in the case of folks having health issues going on. What I don't get are the 'healthy' people that obsess and with this stuff.

That Metabolism hasn’t caught up with you yet. Some people may suffer problems and pain that keep them from working out, as well. Diabetes is a biggie. Our high-fat, high-carb sedentary lifestyles don’t help and over time can cause health issues.

Everyone’s body chemistry is different. You are an exception to the general rule of thumb.

As for myself, I’ve gained 42 pounds in about a year because I haven’t been active due to chronic abdominal pain and nausea. Not long ago, I was like you. Skinny. I’ve never been ‘fat’ in my entire life until now.

The abdominal pain has finally been determined to be my gallbladder. The gallbladder was also causing Pancreatitis which is also very painful.

I go for surgery Tuesday. I’m 38 years old. My goal after surgery is to get skinny once again. Now I will finally have my energy back.

I cannot recommend P90X highly enough.

I went through it two years ago and despite eating 3,000 calories a day, I *still* lost 4% bodyfat.

Just two things:

1) It is NOT for weenies. You will end up feeling aches in muscles you didn't even know the human body had. The "AbRipperX" in particular is great. As the lead guy on the tapes, Tony Horton says, "Ab Ripper X. I hate it...but I love it."

2) Expect a large time commitment, the more so if you try to stick to the diet plan, which matches carbs, fat, and protein and varies them during the 12 weeks of the workout. You will spend an hour a day working out 5x/week, with day 6 an hour and a half (yoga) and day 7 optional for stretching/rest.

You might want to play with it the first week or so, to get the equipment (dumbbells and chin-up bar and/or elastic bands if you can't do chin-ups) and figure out what level it takes to push yourself.

When I get over my current bout of H1N1/Martian Death Flu/hacking cough, I'm probably going to start it up again. Need to get in shape for bicycling season.
