FXR. Nice. Not a fan of those pipes though. I hate crossovers.

eh... I dunno. When it comes to motorcycles, I gravitate towards functionality and performance.

140 hp, smooth all-day comfort, utility, 240 mile range on regular gas, and inexpensive to buy and maintain.

Bike-camped for a week down there... most memorable trip I've had so far. Saw deer and black bears just strolling through the wayside stops. Pretty cool.

Seriously, Though, it is my favorite long distance ride. Rout 55 through West VA is lovely too, though last time i went there was construction that ruined it.

Prefer the rockin chair situation, with my legs stretched out, rather than bound up like Willie Shoemaker.I understand that sentiment; I hear it all the time. Actually, I used to own a "rockin' chair" cruiser motorcycle and put 12,000 miles on that bike before realizing the ergonomics with my legs splayed out in front of me sucked and was horribly uncomfortable for long rides.
Not all sportbikes are cramped torture devices. Mine is not the typical miniature 600 or 1000cc track rack that everyone thinks of when they see aggressive-looking full bodywork. It's actually a huge motorcycle - if I park next to a Fat Boy or a Road King, my bike makes the HD look like a shiny child's toy.
It's actually got alot of leg room. I'm 6'1", 200# and I rode this bike 1024 miles in 17-1/2 hours on an Iron Butt SS1000 ride, with no discomfort whatsoever. In fact, the bike would be a real bitch to ride if you were not tall and long-legged because the seat is so high.
And I'm not even discussing the indisputable advantage in handling and road feel that these kind of ergonomics gets you.
Not trying to start an argument - just setting the record straight that a cruiser's splayed-leg lay-z-boy pose should not be assumed to be the most comfortable or practical just because it resembles a piece of living room furniture, and not every sportbike requires a jocky rider.
Have you ever ridden a large sport-touring bike any distance?

Hope you like the frame. Depending on when you bought it, I may have helped build it. I did R&D for Midwest Motorcycle for a couple of years. Last year they sent our jobs to China. When I took over the fixturing needed
some tuning, if yours is older the motor mounts and fender brackets may have been a touch off. I did most of the design work on their Bobber frame. They cheapened up my design before production, so I really don't claim it. I did
make one off just like I wanted before they closed us down,
tho. It will get a Shovel put in it and a girder front when
I can get some income again. You built a great looking bike.
I saw so much overdone stuff as part of my job that it's
nice to see one tastefully done.

Nope. Haven’t ridden like you ride. My ol’ Softail Custom doesn’t have much room to pack either.
Always figured I’d time my time in a vehicle and take some shorter loops with the bike, if I ever get the chance to see this great country of ours.
I know this is against all biker standards, but it still sounds like fun to me.

Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!
Those are nice pipes. Those aren’t cycle shack slip ons. What are they?
ONly a few things I’d change:
move the front turn signals to the forks
lower the suspension
ditch the dunlops for continentals
add rubber fork gaitors
change the mirrors to the classic round style
lose the pad on the sissy bar
change to a low profile bare bones seat
classic ribbed style handgrips
more expensive fork bag
Now it’s perfect.

Dunno who's pipes they are; I got them as a birthday present. The stock ones failed at the crossover joint.
Interesting take on the Continentals. I'll admit I'm not too fond of the Dunlops. They wear like iron, but not enough stick for me.
I finally got rid of the Nippon Seiki instruments. I replaced them with a Dakota Digital multipurpose gage fitted where the fuel gage used to be.
I went with a La Pera solo seat, drag bars, laydown license plate mount and barbed wire add-ons to ‘hide’ the mirrors. I did move the front directionals to the forks. I kept the stock signals to hang on to the old school look. I added short mounting stocks to the rear signals to tuck them closer to the rear fender. A new set of triple trees raked the front an additional 5 degrees.
Now all I need is cash to finish the project . . .
I'll take the fork bag under advisement.
I had the tins repainted with an MIA, KIA, POW theme. I chromed the tranny top, cam & side covers (I hate polished aluminum; too much work needed to keep it looking nice).
