ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Orlando mother was recovering on Monday after being accidentally stabbed by her 21-month-old child.
The incident happened at the woman's home near Hoffner Avenue and Conway Road.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Office said the toddler was removing items from a dishwasher and accidentally stabbed the mother.
The woman was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center and should be OK.
Just a hunch, but it might pay to see if there are others who might have been around at the time, just in case the story is complete bullsh(t, which it obviously is.
If Mom hasn’t taught tiny tot how to properly handle knives, then she should be more careful when the ankle biter is within reach of sharp utensils.
I would agree. My grandson (17 months) loves to try and help unload the dishwasher. Of course you have to be careful and watch that he doesn’t grab a sharp knife, which he has. I just tell him “danger” and he drops it. But even if he did not, he would not have the strength to ‘stab me’. I might get hurt a bit if he did, but rushed to the hospital, humm that just seems strange.
Why on earth was a toddler allowed to remove sharp items from the dishwasher in the first place? That’s just asking for trouble!
This sounds like a intro to a horror movie. Did he strangle his twin in the womb?
So the kid sucks with knives, but the baby can shoot.
That was sort of my first inclination, too.
Otherwise, that is a strong kid to be able to inflict that kind of wound.
crazy things with kids do happen
I learned to handle knives earlier than I can remember. I think I only ever cut myself badly once when I was in about the 3rd grade and I was carving a pumpkin. It wasn’t a particularly sharp knife so I was forcing it and holding the pumpkin.
In this case it could have easily been an idiot parent not paying attention but we coddle children far too much these days.
In 1909 my great grandmother was 9 years old and taking care of 5 sisters and a northern Michigan farm while her parents took the baby to the hospital in Ann Arbor for weeks at a time.
Eggsackley ... Stuie finally got Lois.
Victory is mine!
What kind of wound? The article doesn't say. A child approaching two could easily pick up a sharp knife (from dishwasher or floor) and inflict a cut to an adult's leg without much effort. I never put the cooking knives in the dishwasher, only the table knives.
I don’t know if the story is true or not, but I can see this happening with my kid, lo, those many years ago. Mom is trying to unload the dishwasher, trying to keep the toddler in the same room so he doesn’t run off and do some damage elsewhere, he tries to help, I say, “No no, honey, don’t touch the—Ooooof!” This is exactly what would have happened. We had similar accidents, though I’m thankful nothing involving knives.
I get hit in the legs with wooden swords and plastic light sabers all the time ;-).
This story seems reasonable enough to me, especially if (its being Florida) the mother was wearing shorts.
Maybe not "allowed"; turn to put something away and the little buggers move unbelievably fast (ask Grandpa Red!).
