Wade Phillips in Dallas Until 2012
Bleacherreport ^ | 21 January 2010 | James Williamson

Posted on 01/21/2010 10:14:57 AM PST by stainlessbanner

First, the Dallas Cowboys' Web site said that they were going to keep Wade Phillips. Then the team said that wasn't official yet. At the end of the day, though, Phillips is still the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

Wade Phillips' contract option was picked up and Jerry Jones added two more years to the deal.

Phillips is 33-15 in three years with Dallas and has a major playoff win over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

He has taken this team's defense to second overall in the entire NFL. Seven Cowboys are going to the Pro Bowl this year. More can come in if certain players choose to not participate and the Dallas alternate can go instead.

The Cowboys have been known as a team that not only couldn't win it all, but couldn't even stay in the dance. Wade Phillips changed that, and the Cowboys have rewarded him by keeping him in Dallas.

The Cowboys are in the right system now with a playoff win. I cannot wait for next season.

I agree Wade is a mediocre coach at best, great defensive coordinator. Jason Garrett is a huge problem. He out thinks himself on a regular basis. Paying and trading what they did for a washed up Roy Williams was a horrible decision. Marion Barber needs to be Felix Jones’ backup, not the other way around. Romo may be a Danny White but he is a huge upgrade over what they had prior and better then the average NFL qb. I think he can get them over the hump with the right offensive. (Not JG’s)

In fact I should be the coach, offensive and defensive coordinators. I would look great in a fedora and sport coat standing on the sidelines.

I like coach Reid. But, although Dallas beat us 3 times this year, there was blame to go around. I would not be surprised to see a change at qb here.

I am not really impressed with Phillips, and as we all know, there is actually only one happy team at the end of the year.

Do you think Donovan wants to play in DC? We would be happy to have him for 2 years.

He was great here in San Diego. Still haven’t forgiven him for leaving.

“If I were a Cowboys fan, I’d be asking why Sean Payton isn’t the head coach and why Jones can’t just sign the checks and keep quiet.”

We DO ask those questions ... all the time.

I think he has another year on his contract. It is unlikely we would trade him to a team we play twice a year, but you never know. I wish the Redskins well. (accept when you play the Eagles of course)

Agreed that is a very ugly schedule for the Cowboys. I would have bet my last dollar that Phillips was out the door.

Heard he’s waiting for the Giants coaching job...he’s friends with the owners or something...just blog fodder, have no idea if it’s true

Either way, Wade Phillips is a proven loser. Should have never hired him, should get rid of him sooner than later.

I am soooooooo not a Wade Phillips fan. But then again, as you can see by my screen-name, I’m not a Dallas fan either. LOL

Perhaps, but Wade Phillips is on his 3rd franchise. He just doesn’t win championships. Dallas is seriously wasting their time on him. Look what he did in Buffalo.

Washington will never be anything but an also-ran until they find a way to get rid of Dan Snyder.

And now Buffalo has another Jerry castoff as coach in Chan Gailey.
