New Product Announcements From GLOCK, Inc. at 2010 SHOT Show
PR Newswire ^ | Jan 20, 2009 | News Release

Posted on 01/22/2010 6:38:32 PM PST by smokingfrog

The GLOCK 22 Gen4 in .40 caliber and GLOCK 17 Gen4 (Generation 4) in 9x19 are featured in the #14049 GLOCK booth this week. The new Gen4 has several new features designed to satisfy the most demanding consumers.

Most noticeably, the Gen4 design has a multiple backstrap system that allows the user to change the circumference of the grip to fit their individual hand size. The grip has three options; a short frame version, medium frame or large frame that are easily changed and secured with a single pin.

The magazine release catch of the Gen4 is reversible and enlarged. The reversible magazine catch allow users to switch access of the catch to the left or right side of the pistol with no additional parts.

Internally, the original recoil spring has been replaced with a dual recoil spring assembly. The dual recoil spring assembly noticeably reduces the recoil while simultaneously increasing the life cycle of the pistol.

Additionally, the Gen4 has a new Rough Textured Frame (RTF) surface designed to enhance grip traction and is present on the frame as well as the interchangeable backstraps.

During recent grueling endurance testing and at the SWAT Round Up International competition, several police agencies had a chance to handle and shoot the new pistols and many positive comments were made about the design changes. Gary Fletcher, Vice President at GLOCK, Inc. mentioned that "GLOCK, Inc.'s dedication to perfection has made GLOCK the chosen firearm for many Law Enforcement agencies around the world. The Gen4 is just another step in GLOCK, Inc.'s commitment to producing the best firearm for Law Enforcement, Military, Federal Law Enforcement/Military and the law abiding citizen."

The Gen4, just like any GLOCK pistol, has the same time tested "Safe Action" system, durable exterior finish, cold hammer forged barrel, durability, reliability and light weight that make GLOCK firearms famous. All GLOCK pistols are backed by the GLOCK Limited Lifetime Warranty and world-class customer service and support that is second to none in the firearms industry.

To paraphrase “Hans und Franz”: Pumpitude is no substitute for Glockitude!

I will just disagree.....less is more IMO. The 1911A1, SIG and Combat Tupperware Glocks are my choices. Albeit I have NOT even laid hands on a XD yet. No reason just haven’t met anyone on my work or public range with one .

An XD runs just like a Glock, but it has the benefits of a little tit prong that pops out of the back of the slide when the striker is cocked, and an extractor-like doohicky on top that juts up 1/8” when a round is chambered.

So you basically have an uglier Glock, with visual/tactile condition indicators. A good thing in the dark at 3am as you reach for the bedside gun. With your thumb and finger, you can just KNOW the status of the gun, even if you have not touched it in a while.

With a Glock, you gotta semi break battery and “press check,” or just “hope and think” you remembered the status correctly.

My memory is not 100.0000000% perfect, so I’ll take the visual/tactile indicators’ help.

PS, I forgot, if you always empty chamber carry a Glock, them indicators don’t matter none.

You remembered.....:o)

I, as ya know, carry my CHL glock empty chamber with a full “plus two” magazine, cavalry / messkin style in my waistband. I can embassy rake the slide or just Israeli it. Spare mag rides in ruler pouch of my carpenter jeans perfectly.

I will snag /borrow an XD on your recommendation asap.

The out of the box melt / dehorned glock is key for me due carry a lot and only shoot in 3 gun matches and or range days. Aside from a Clark Meltdown 1911A1 or a Hk P9S (IMO) a CHL rig can play havoc on upholstery at home and in your vehicle as well as your clothing due sharp edges etc .....glock meets all my needs for comfortable carry, reliable and easy on the skins......

You can tell if a round is chambered by looking at or feeling the extractor.

Visual?

The trigger position will both visually and physically indicate if the Glock is ready to go bang. Unless one routinely keeps their Glock unloaded with none or an empty magazine inserted. Then it will give a false positive; however I know when my Glocks are unloaded as they are in pieces on the cleaning bench.

Maybe Smith can sue Glock like Glock did over the original Sigma.
