Why do I keep getting asked if I'm Hispanic or Latino on job applications?

Posted on 01/26/2010 8:05:10 AM PST by clippedwing

Someone please tell me why this is....

Every job application out there askes me if I'm Hispanic or Latino! Why not Black? ...or non-White?

Many years ago I applied for a local gov job and checked "Native American" in the ethnicity section. Later during the interview, I was asked about my Native American status, as they seemed very interested in that. I finally told them I am Native American because I was born in America, making me a Native, and more specifically a Native Texan.
That seemed to end the interview early.

I get that, too, sometimes. I get telemarketers who speak to me in Spanish because my last name CAN be Spanish (it is NOT). I just hang up or tell them that I am NOT a Spanish-speaker.

I also don’t fill out any of the EOE crap anymore. I am white/Native American and it got me mad that either I have to A.) pick one over the other or B.)when I select Native it asks me for my tribal affliation number. I bet you no other racial group has to provide proof. C.)It is none of anyone’s business.

Sometimes I get a thrill out of being a prick about not being racially classified. I've made people tear up forms and refill them when I refuse to sign something with a race checked on it. It is fun when some liberal take an attitude about it and I calmly ask "So, are you judging me by the color of my skin instead of the content of my character?" They get angrier than when a Republican quotes JFK in a campaign commercial.

If you’re white, you’re now “non-Hispanic white.” You’re defined by what you’re not...Hispanic.

Also worth noting is that so-called “Native Americans” in fact absolutely HAAAATE that term and never use it. Imagine Russia invading us in the 1970’s, replacing our government, renaming the country to “Western Russia”, and branding us as “Native Western Russians”.

Also, note that in any TV advertising they do (for casinos, for example) they refer to themselves as Indians.

The government asks your race on everything. I was asked my race on an application for an agricultural exemption on property taxes, on a questionnaire about my small business (I don’t have one but they sent it to me three times) -— on everything.

Not only that, but the feds have all sorts of back-up procedures for people who refuse to answer.

When we applied for a mortgage we refused to check any of the boxes. The loan officer told us that since we refused to do so, he was required by law to state what he observed our race to be. Govt will also impute your race based on census data if you refuse to answer the question on various surveys.

I want no part of this racial beancounting, so I still decline to participate whenever possible.

BTW, my daughter does claim it, as is her right. As a 3.95 GPA student, she received the minority scholarship at her University last year after filling out the application. When she went onstage to receive her acknowledgment there were a couple of murmurs in the audience. She’s blonde and blue eyed. I guess she wasn’t exactly what they expected.

I was friends with a girl from Columbia. Blonde hair, blue eyes, clearly European stock. But she had a Hispanic surname and Spanish was her native language. Yep, she claimed "Hispanic" on all forms and applications. Hypothetically, had I married this girl, our children would've had blonde hair and blue eyes and my English surname yet they'd be Hispanic in the eyes of the law.

That's the beauty of the Hispanic definition. You can be as white as Cameron Diaz or as black as Sammy Sosa. When it comes to racial and ethnic preferences, it doesn't matter.

are you applying for State Government jobs in Pennsylvania?
A little birdie has told me that Fast Eddie Rendell has put the full-court press on the bureaucracy to hire more Hispanics so the Dems can court that vote in the next cycle.

As “Cheap_Hessian” put it: “We are no longer individuals”. With the passing of so-called “civil rights legislation” back in the 60’s, we’ve progressively become a society where we identify ourselves with a group, instead of what God made us, individuals, so that we can be afforded special rights based on our group identity.

How do we return to being a nation of individuals that have a common culture and goals? I can think of one place where people of all colors meet and with those ideas in mind....

I went to the local Lowe’s. I was trying to find something, and one of store guys came up and asked if I needed help. I said something that sounded Spanish, intending to have a laugh with the guy about how everything was labeled in both English and Spanish. The guy motioned for me to wait, and he went to get their only Spanish-speaking employee! When they got back, I was laughin’ my butt off! They laughed too.

Fast Eddie Rendell has put the full-court press on the bureaucracy to hire more Hispanics so the Dems can court that vote in the next cycle.

I would not try that if I were him. Let him ask his neighbor ex-NJ Gov Corzine how that worked out.

Now, if any state was ripe for an illegal alien takeover, it was the Nov 2009 race for NJ governor. The race was considered a "squeaker" that would go on till all hours. But two hours after the polls closed, the Repub was declared the winner with a comfortable 4-point margin (would have been higher were it not for Dem voter fraud).

The winning Republican Lt Governor candidate----a County Sheriff----was lacerated by latino groups. She had applied for the federal 287(g) program. Latinos began an allout assault---accusing the Sheriff of "political pandering" and for scouting incidents of indictable offenses such as driving under the influence by undocumented immigrants coming into the County jail, and asking about about immigration status, regardless of the offense.

The Sheriff had simply sought to ensure that "illegal criminals" were not unduly released for fear illegals would further harm the ciizenry and the community.

NEW JERSEY IS "IDENTITY FRAUD CENTRAL" FOR LATINO IDENTITY THEFT

Two Texans busted in bogus ID operation in NJ NORTH BERGEN, NJ -- July 21, 2006 -- Pelcastre brothers, Angel and Jorge, Dallas, Texas, were a walking threat to US national security, expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity, authorities said. The Texas brothers turned a NJ hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local NJ identity broker.

The Texas brothers were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of fake US documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses for any state in the US, passports and resident alien cards, said state police. Officers happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in a NJ hotel parking lot. Authorities wouldn't identify the NJ hotel by name for fear it would spark retribution. The Drug Interdiction Task Force, regularly runs checks.

The Texas brothers were followed to a NJ office supply store nearby where they purchased computer supplies. Officers then followed the Texans to a NJ storage facility in Secaucus, NJ, where the Texans loaded several boxes into a car. One of them stood lookout. Authorities approached the Texas brothers when they returned to the NJ hotel and questioned them separately. The Texas brothers consented to a search.

Police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs. All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street. Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a NJ fake document broker for a shipment of 500 Social Security cards.

===============================================

Ohaha was heavly invested in the NJ gubernatorial race. Ohaha's carefully laid plans----for installing a permanent Dem majority w/ illegals-----went haywire. Pulling out all the stops for NJ made Ohaha a VERY good target for those disgusted with Ohaha’s policies.

OBAMA WAS DESPERATE FOR A NJ WIN TO PROTECT THE WH AGENDA. Obama put the power of the WH machine behind Corzine. The NY Times reported:
(a) every TV ad Corzine put on the air was being screened by Obama's WH team.
(b) Corzine's aides gave the WH daily briefings.
(c) Obama’s pollsters took over for Corzine’s polling team.
(d) White House operatives were on the ground for internal strategy sessions.
(e) White House operatives were orchestrating obscure pep rallies with Latinos (kept secret from voters).
(f) Corzine had a "Peruvian Pac" endorsing him.
(g) Ohaha campaigned in the state three times, Biden was there twice. Ohaha TV ads ran relentlessly in costly NY media markets.
(h) Corzine promised to give illegals driving credentials & in-state tuition.
(i) Corzine sucked up bigtime and REFUSED to enforce current immigration laws.
(j)Corzine formed a Blue Ribbon committee of latinos and other hypenates who were using tax dollars to mine votes for Corzine.
(k) Also sucking up to illegals was Democrat US Sen Robert Menendez, a Spanish-speaking Corzine campaigner.
(l)Corzine appointed latinos to the Supreme Court and to other high profile state jobs.

Other pertinent facts:

>> Incumbent Dem Jon Corzine (the wealthy loser) outspent the Repub winner about 4-1.
>> New Jersey has a huge Democratic registration.
>> Corzine bragged he had 20,000 paid union helpers on the ground election day to get out the vote.
>> There was a third party candidate siphoning off Republican votes.
>> Corzine had the power of incumbency.
>> Corzine had the power of a crooked Democrat Machine cooking the vote.
>> Ohaha hid $17.5 BILLION stimlulus in New Jersey.....for Corzine's reelection campaign.

And still Corzine lost.

====================================

The WH's lack of political savvy was glaringly on display. Early in the NJ campaign, an onslaught of weird WH approved-ads blanketed the pricey NY media markets-----showed Ohaha at a NJ rally praising Corzine---with strange "reaction shots" of people w/ deadpan faces, watching Ohaha. Predictably Corzine's numbers fell precipitously.

But WH know-it-alls still didn't "get it." Ohaha and Biden came back to NJ---more weird Ohaha ads ensued. Corzine also ran some sap-happy liberal "I got feelings" ads. None of the pundits thought the Repubs could pull it off. The rest is history. It appears the WH bombed.....the unions failed Corzine.....and the Latino suckup failed.

THE UPSHOT According to Ohaha's slimy Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, Ohaha was "busy with other matters" election night and "wasn't really concerned" with election results... an indication the WH is sucking up valium and vodka in order to anesthetize themselves from the aftermath.....trying to convince themselves the election was not a referendum on Obama.

Ohaha is smoking something illegal if he thinks Americans will become accustomed to Third World mob rule---just on his say-so.

It’s basically an “invented” minority category. Hispanics can be White, Mestizo, Native American, or Black.

Hispanic is an ethnicity, like Irish, not a race, like Black. By definition it just means originating in a Spanish-speaking country or having ancestors as such. However, if you’re from Spain, I don’t think the US considers you Hispanic, it seems to have come to only mean Latin American.

Most people we consider Hispanic are some version of Mestizo, i.e., mixed White (Spanish) and Native American ancestry. So their race is technically “White” and/or “Native American.” A girl that works in my office is 100% White but was born in Puerto Rico, so is considered “Hispanic” by the US Census Bureau, but also White, and it annoys me that she “uses” both classifications to her advantage when it’s convenient.

It’s an ethnicity, not a race, which makes me wonder why nobody asks me if I’m Italian (I am on my father’s side). Why Hispanic? Why not Italian, or Irish, or even Cambodian or something?
