WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration is considering several steps that would review the legality of the controversial Bowl Championship Series, the Justice Department said in a letter Friday to a senator who had asked for an antitrust review.
In the letter to Sen. Orrin Hatch, obtained by The Associated Press, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich wrote that the Justice Department is reviewing Hatch's request and other materials to determine whether to open an investigation into whether the BCS violates antitrust laws.

Perhaps he should hand Acorn a multi-billion dollar contract to organize this.
What the...?
There are so many idiots and so little time.
Would you rather he spend time on those issues? More power to him! Up next, do more inquiries on steroids in baseball!
Boy do I feel better now....

How about the NFL telling refs to hand certain games to certain teams. That is a LEAST as important as 10% unemployment.
Oh for crying out loud.
ML/NJ
Whatever takes his Marxist fingers off the real issues.
I agree with you, I’d rather them spend all their time on this than ObamaCare.
Must not like Alabama.
ROLL TIDE!
Obama is proposing that everyone gets a trophy in order to be fair.
Barry, get me a friggin job!! Green. Blue. Red. Anything will do ya moron.
This is the stupidest idea these guys have come up with ~ I thought being third-rate minds they’d pretty much plumbed the width and breadth of negative space, but now they’ve taken this sudden plunge into the fourth-rate.
Start turning over the NCAA money tables. Can the NCAA put together a 16 team playoff system by this fall?
Find the BCS birth certificate and change the world.
Well, that’s a good point. I move that the administration devote the rest of its one and only term to figuring out an alernative to the BCS.
;-)
The South!
Just more proof that this jackass thinks he was elected to stick his ears into everything. Only a despot would believe that he has to get involved in this.
Don’t try to keep up with these folks, just be prepared.
These people are nuts.
We’re just old ,know nothing ,country folk here.Everytime time I hear these people I buy Ammo. It’s crazy, but true.
Certainly does light that fire under me that says “GET MORE GUNS”
College is just not for education anymore. Large gate receipts to siphon off for other government uses besides there being some leverage for contributions.
The South!
He needs to stick to playing golf and keep his Marxist fingers off of college football!
Fine. Allow the bowls to go back to each one inviting whom they wished - no championship game. Anything else is another intrusion into free enterprise.
Only by discarding all the bowls.
The BCS obviously discriminates against mediocre football teams.
He’s like a child dictator. I can’t believe this.
Nice to see he’s got his priorities straight.

Birth
Certificate
Sweepstakes
That’s what he wants to change it to...
I do believe Penn State beat LSU this year in the “old” Citrus Bowl.
So much for those SEC teams needing 7 point handicaps!
WE ARE!!!! PENN STATE!!!!
Remember it was Orrin Hatch, one of those idiot Senate Republicans, who invited the Administration to get involved! This is the 0bama Justice Dept. which spiked any action on the New Black Panther voter intimidation case. Nice move, Orrin.
Ping.
“Hes like a child dictator”
The most insightful five words I’ve read in a long time.
Since WHEN does the federal government have ANY FRICKIN’ BUSINESS telling a PRIVATE sports enterprise how to organize its system of competition???
I remember during the ‘08 campaign when Obama was interviewed at halftime during a Monday Night Football telecast and he said he’d like to see the BCS adopt a playoff system. Evidently, now that this maniacal Marxist president is in power, he figures he can use the government to force the private sector to cater to his every whim. After all, the role of the masses is to serve, amuse, and entertain the dictator, right?
add the NFL overtime rules to the “TO-DO” list!
Normally this goes against my philosophy, but I favor this.
College football is a sham. It’s a monopoly controlled by the BCS conferences and they will not allow any change that would disrupt their cash-flow. It is all about money in college football, not fairness. And that does go against the competitive philosophy. We’ve given college football plenty of chances and time to make the system fair and they refuse to do it. So I really am not bothered by this.
Plus this is Obama vs Academia. It is liberal vs. liberal. Its better he spend time on this than screwing up something else more important.
I’d like to see several conferences pull out of the NCAA and form their own Athletic Association.
Thanks for the heads up JJ
