By early Friday evening, the DOT was warning drivers of passable but dangerous conditions along I-75 in Whitfield County.
The DOT advises people to travel in north Georgia only if necessary.
All of Georgia will be getting precipitation over the next 24 hour, with snow, ice and freezing rain in north Georgia and rain and thunderstorms in southern parts of the state.
Because of the forecast, several extreme north Georgia counties closed schools early Friday -- Fanin, Gilmer, Rabun, Towns, and Union county schools.
The National Weather Service has a winter storm warning in place through early Saturday afternoon for northeast Georgia. In addition, a wide area of southeast Georgia is under a flood advisory.
Friday's night's forecast calls for a mix of rain, snow, and sleet will take hold in north Georgia. Southern portions of the state will get showers and thunderstorms. Lows to range from the 30's to 50's.
Ahead on Saturday, rain showers likely with freezing rain and sleet changing to light snow northeast. Highs from the 30's to 60's.
I'm in Oklahoma and started the information for Oklahomans to post weather info.
Here on this thread, Georgia FReepers can post what is going on in the state... :-)
Here’s your Georgia thread for the big snow storm moving across the United States... :-)

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Snow will continue to overspread the region this evening and become heavier. As much as three inches of new snow accumulation is expected across the mountains before midnight, and perhaps an inch or two will accumulate elsewhere, a statement from the National Weather Service shows.
As relative milder air arrives aloft overnight, snow will mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain mainly south and southwest of the French Broad Valley.
Accumulating precipitation will lessen from midday Saturday onward. Total snow accumulations could be as high as 12 to 14 across northwest North Carolina to as little as two to four inches across the southwest North Carolina mountain valleys and into the South Carolina and northeast Georgia mountains, where a damaging and/or hazardous accumulation of ice and sleet may occur on top of the snow.
Precautionary/preparedness actions
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring. Heavy wet snow and/or ice accumulations may result in toppled trees and/or power lines. Travel is expected to become very hazardous or impossible.
To report snow, sleet or ice accumulations, call the National Weather Service's toll-free reporting line at 877-633-6772.
Okay, Georgia FReepers... send in those snow and ice reports and what’s going on in the state of Georgia as this big winter storm moves through... :-)
Nuttin but rain over by Winder.
Just light rain in the Forsyth/Fulton county area. Earlier we had some light sleet but the ground is too warm to amount to anything interesting.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
While residents in the North Georgia mountains brace for modest accumulations of snow and ice, metro Atlanta should expect nothing but rain -- and plenty of it.
Four to six inches of snow and 1/2-3/4 inches of ice predicted for the mountains, with as much as a foot possible along the North Carolina border.
School officials in Union and Rabun counties decided to send students home at 1 p.m. Friday. Towns County schools closed at 1:30 p.m., 30 minutes before Gilmer County's schools, as officials braced for the onslaught of ice and snow.
Areas of the state along and north of a line from Chatsworth through Dawsonville and Gainesville to Danielsville remain under a winter storm warning from 4 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday. The Weather Service warns that icing "may result in downed tree branches and power lines. Prepare for power outages."

I am in North Forsyth. Nothing but light rain so far. I would welcome a blanket of snow, but don’t want any ice. The line is so close that it’s hard to predict. Most of the roads are warm enough that ice on the roads is unlikely.
My son is on his final training exercises at Ft Benning Ga from last night through Wednesday
It doesn't look like it's going that far south in Georgia, so probably not a problem down that way... :-)

If I understand the forecast right, and the areas involved, that sorta looks a bit too far south to make any difference. I don't think you'll see anything more than rain (if that... ).
But, if you had been in Oklahoma (over the last few days) then you would have seen about a quarter of a million people without power around here, because of that dreaded ice.
It sure does look nice and pretty -- but things break... :-)
Correct, we’re not to see anything more than rain. The Northern Atlanta burbs usually get a nasty, (at least in this part of the world,) ice storm this time of year.
Hell, man- I'm still trying to get the busted pipes the last freeze burst fixed, over at my late MIL's spread out in the country...
And how is it doing for you Georgia FReepers today, over in Georgia-land? :-)
Anyone see that ice or snow there, in any parts of Georgia?
Just cold and wet out by Winder... news says roads are freezing?
So far, just a light cold rain.
Just wet and cold...I’ve spent most of the day doing some indoor painting.
