*VIDEO* Analysis of the Spiritual Symbolism in Lady Gaga Music Video
YouTube ^

Posted on 01/31/2010 2:43:26 PM PST by CondoleezzaProtege

Considering her influence in our culture and international iconic status, I believe the messages behind her art warrants this level of analysis. The power of images should never be underestimated and I am quite impressed with what the video's author uncovered. Any discerning believer with a heart for the greater culture would benefit from watching this. As the saying goes, "the devil's in the details." Be sure to click the link.

HI gardencatz, I don't think Gaga had the intent of shocking anyone with this particular video actually (though obviously she does love shocking people.) This video was rather tame considering some of her other stuff. The symbolism is so subtle, only people with some sort of expertise in the field would catch the details and make the connections.

Therefore, the power of the video is in the *subconscious* impact it has more than anything else. I can't be sure if Gaga is evem aware of the meaning of all the symbols, but it's clear, the DIRECTOR does. He obviously has a strong knowledge of ancient spirituality, the Bible, and of occultic and Freudian concepts because he's incorporated them in several other major videos he's directed.

For me personally, it shows that there is demonic influence even behind seemingly harmless, light-hearted "pop" videos and that we can't underestimate the power these visual images can have on people subconsciously.

hellbender,

I posted this lady gaga analysis up because this particular video wasn’t your average piece of pop. it’s not about her sensual moves or explicit lyrics—but the blatant occultic, Freudian, ancient spiritual, and Biblical symbols incorporated into several of the video’s segments.

The symbolism is so subtle, only people with some sort of expertise in the field would catch the details and make the connections. (Things like ram’s heads, egyptian cats, crucifixes, bath houses, etc...) Therefore, the power of the video is in the *subconscious* impact it has more than anything else.

I can’t be sure if Gaga is evem aware of the meaning of all the symbols, but it’s clear, the DIRECTOR does. He obviously has a strong knowledge of ancient spirituality, the Bible, and of occultic and Freudian concepts because he’s incorporated them in several other major videos he’s directed.

okay what about the ram’s heads on the wall, the crosses on the coffins, and the slot machine/auction scenes implying that she is being auctioned off aka “selling her soul?”

again, it’s those subtle, subconscious things..but I don’t think it’s conspiratorial to suggest the director has a knowledge of the occult because he incorporates blatant symbolism in other videos.

Here’s a video of one of her most famous performances. For anyone who still has doubts about the symbolism...That set is straight out of Tarot cards, the church-like organ music, and just witness the bloody, grotesque ending.

Again, not your average pop performance.

>And that’s just the beginning. The video was rich with symbolism and other references.

I never said it didn’t have ANY symbolism; but there are some more I flatly disagree with:

The fire in the video was attributed to passion (esp. sexual) with the inference that the “selling her soul” [to the devil] is the reason there’s no body in the final shot; however there IS a body. It is the charred skeleton of whomever ‘won’ her, and if you remember around the time of the fire she was saying something along the lines of “I’m my own bitch.”

So, given the above the symbolism in question seems to be saying “I’m not about to be anyone’s property”/”I am self-deterministic”/”My will is my own.” {Biblically arguing against free will is hard, even impossible given that if there was no free-will God could not be Just and still punish us for sinning; as James says we sin when we are drawn away by lust, and when lust is conceived it brings sin.}

But back to the symbolism; given in the video is one of sight being related to innocent & sinful; with ‘blind’ being equated to trusting/obeying God. If that were accurate and consistent however, the ‘innocent’ in the bath-tub should have been completely blind. Furthermore, biblically speaking, blindness is associated with being spiritually lost or willfully ignorant where as ‘sight’ is associated with understanding (and even more generally relationship with God).

As for the cat/goat/crucifix thing I am of the opinion that they are relatively harmless props, much like the costumes. (Tasteful and/or appropriate is another debate.)

Then there is the question of how much of the video is hers [Lady Gaga] vs. others’s [director/publicist/producer, etc]; I have no idea how much control pop-stars have over their music videos and suspect that it varies greatly.

Ugh... the so called dronezak they're passing off as music nowadays.

I couldn't stand to listen to more than 45 sec. And what is with the Kabuki Jap dancing bunny suit Lip-syncing to that unintelligible tripe?

Thank you Lord! I don't get it!

According to her in the Oprah interview it was all about Princess Di being hounded to death by the paparazzi. I wouldn’t give ol’ Steffi G. credit for studying symbolism enough to put it in her performances. Her target audience wouldn’t get anything out of it.

Thanks but I don’t have to watch that garbage to guess what it’s about.

Demonic influences in music and movies and the other arts in this country have gone on for a very long time and nothing that comes out surprises me.

Thanks.

This is like the twits who put Beatles music under a microscope to “prove” Paul is dead. Some people need to get a life and stop making Christians look retarded.

I’m not particularly a fan of underwear videos since they are usually just a tactic to divert attention from the mediocrity of the performance. “Bad Romance” though is actually a pretty good video, something exceptionally rare today. It seems to owe more of its imagery to the Fifth Element and Nosferatu movies then to Baal and pagan sacrifice of the Middle Ages.

I also get a smile from the choreographer’s clever moves that make you forget that people can’t really do elaborate dance moves in those platform shoes. That stage had to sound like a barn with the clomping those shoes would produce.

Gaga herself I’m neither hot nor cold on. It’s too soon and I’m not familiar with her overall body of work. She seems to have some legitimate talent that needn’t rely on studio tricks. If so that ultimately will probably limit her career.

Also those snide spiteful remarks calling her a man seem pretty lame. Churlishness isn’t really a conservative value, no matter how hard some here work at it.

did you even watch the video? it wasn’t your typical conspiratorial nonsense. it starts getting especially interesting about 2 minutes into it.

as i said before:

The video spends time exploring the blatant occultic, Freudian, and Biblical symbols/references incorporated into several of the music video’s segments.

The symbolism is pretty subtle, only people with some sort of expertise in the field would catch the details and make the connections. (Things like ram’s heads, egyptian cats, the red crucifixes on the coffins, bath houses, etc...) Therefore, the power of the video is in the *subconscious* impact it has more than anything else.

I can’t be sure if Gaga is even aware of the meaning of all the symbols, but it’s clear, the DIRECTOR does. He obviously has a strong knowledge of all that stuff because he’s incorporated them in several other major videos he’s directed.

"- Haus is merely German for ‘house.’ - The refrence to Lady Gaga being a god-like figure because she is sitting on a throne is a bit of a stretch when it is more likely that the director (who said he was going for a sort of futuristic Russian bath-house) was thinking of a monarch.

* The January 4th Orlando Sentinel article reviewing her show says otherwise :

The lady herself calls it "the church of Gaga" and she's not shy about the commandments:

"Tonight you must free yourself as if it were the last night on Earth!" she implored the sold-out crowd of believers on Sunday at the UCF Arena. Since she was sprawled out on her back at the time, it was obvious that Lady Gaga was more than willing to show the way to freedom.

..."And, amid all the sex and splashy effects, that church image rang strangely true."

Lady Gaga has been the subject of intense studies of the fit of her underwear.

Yes, she wears underwear. Sometimes it's loose. Sometimes it's not loose. Sometimes it is exceedingly scanty.

For the most part Lady Gaga is THE GROUP and not just the lead singer. This is DANCE MUSIC FOR CHICKS.

I’ve read that she is actually a he. Anyone know if this is true?

I've been saying that all along. I believe the not being sure is part of her/his/its mystique.
