Picked up this little aside from a comment on the movie at Amazon. I couldn't help but be reminded of something that Obama has said about having a mandate.

The key to the movie perhaps can be had in a little speech by Goebbels. An army General protests the wanton slaughter of civilians and the Volkssturm. Goebbels replies, "I have no sympathy. No sympathy! The German people gave us the mandate. And now you cry because your little throats are being cut." It's a chilling moment. And a sobering reminder that politicians must be held accountable, and the people of a nation have to be responsible in their choice of leader

Just looked up the Buddy Rich version.

Now THAT's funny. The Hitler videos are kinda like Jackie Chan movies - if you've seen one, you've seen them all - EXCEPT the Buddy Rich version, which is a hoot.

(Warning: It does have some very coarse language in it.)

I haven't seen that clip in many years - it's an absolutely brilliant example of the lost comedic art of "double-talk" (and I do not mean the political variety, which is all too common). Sid Caesar truly was a genius.
