DirecTV Snow Fade hitting me now.
My TV | DGHoodini

Posted on 02/05/2010 4:15:50 PM PST by DGHoodini

Just started getting the 'Storm Fade' effect from "Snowmageddon"..have lost most of my DirecTV channels to one degee or another. Still getting my local channels though (off my roof attenna no doubt, but still digital. I gotta admit i'm curious as to how long it will last (the outage) considering the intensity of the storm. But considering my usual TV fare for Friday nights, is Ghost Whisperer, Medium, and Numb3rs, that and a large list of movies at Netflix to watch instantly, i'm not all gthat put out. Shame Hulu doesn't have a deal with CBS, so that if the locals go out too, I'd be able to catch their line-up tommorrow if the outage gets that bad.

Battery Packs fully vharged, fridge and pantry stocked, and extra milk and bread out in the car trunk for an extended snow boundinding...Snug as a bug in a hearth rug.

A lot of us “lowlanders” don’t drive SUVs with 4 wheel drive and snow tires to put on in December. Some of us live in areas that the streets we live on, are on the lowest priority when it comes to city snow plowing.

We are in the Shenandoah Valley of VA and lost our signal. We are new to DirecTV and called them. They said it was weather related and if we could get the snow off of the dish we should be okay. Hubby went out with a broom and did a sweep, reset to get the signal back and we are up and running!!!

I think we probably have about 18 inches on the ground now but expecting in excess of 30 inches by tomorrow night. UGH! I want to see Spring!!!! Green grass, leaves on the trees, flowers in bloom and warm Spring breezes!

That’s all it takes to get a clear signal. Just sweep the snow off. I use that windshield de-icer spray on it too.

I know others are getting hit much worse, but I just had to marvel as I saw on my TV that my county has just declared a Level 2 Snow Emergency, considering the roads were clear and dry not 4 hours ago.

So where do you think Al Gore is staying in D.C. this weekend? :oD

Hope you got your 12 horsepower snowthrower ready...

In WI, we get these once every 10 years or so...

When that happened to me the first time I called the satellite company and they told me that when it snows hard or sleets, go out with a towel and wipe off the satellite. It works everytime I have to do it, but my satellite is not on the roof....I wonder if Pam spray would really work or somehow put a coating on the satellite that would interfer with reception. In Michigan, I so have to clean off the satellite several times a month due to winter snows and sleet...

Oh crap! Just lost grid power for a second. That does not bode well with my power company with a storm alert that’s supposed to last until noon tomorrow. I may be posting on battery power in the dark, at some point tonight. With a level 2 alert, they won’t be fixing it any time soon, if if goes all the way out. Time to get my cell phone battery fully charged!

No, The PAM will put a nice slippery coating on your dish, and the snow will no easily stick to it as much as before.

I think I’ll try it...Another freeper recently talked about spraying pam on your snow blower to keep the snow from sticking....thanks

If you get a lot of snow, you might consider a dish cover or a dish heater.

I don’t get a lot of snow, so I just tied a lawn and leaf bag over the dish.

Just brush it off with a broom when it gets like that. Easy, safe, and rare.

We get lots of snow here and even when it’s bad the dish hardly ever goes out. Once in awhile when the cloud cover is really thick and it’s snowing like crazy but, it doesn’t last.

That’s pretty much how ours is. Even on days where it’s snowing like crazy and the cloud cover is thick it usually doesn’t go out. If it does, it’s for a very brief time.

The only thing I worry about is losing power so I can’t read FreeRepublic.
