And she is 100% correct. Many resorts in Mexico depend upon tourism for their economy, just like Hawaii.
And Hawaii and Mexico are not alone there; Obama still hasn’t figured this one out, but Las Vegas depends upon conferences and tourism to keep their economy going.
So, go on vacation, spend your discriminatory income on treating yourself, and help hotels, resturants, tourism survive.

For my Christmas vacation I went down to New Orleans and made it my business to throw money around, to help the recovering economy of that city. I had a great time and tipped heavily, the local business made a little money, and it was a great vacation, because I did not worry about the price of anything.

On my honeymoon there 31 years ago, it was crystal clear
to me just how much that country depended on tourism.

True, but in the case of some celebrities - where can they go to get away from the paparazzi? It wasn't unusual for some stars to rent out an entire villa resort, so they could have some privacy.
If I were a resort owner, I'd love to rent out every room I have to a single celebrity and their family.... paid for 150 rooms, but only having to clean and maintain 2-3 ... sounds like a bargain to me.
