The more we hear about Taken director Pierre Morel's approach to a new version of Dune, the better we feel. Today we get news that he's hired a new writer, Chase Palmer, to draft the script, with the mandate: Stick closely to the source material.

As a purist, I hated the movie at first. David Lynch’s vision kinda grew on me eventually. It’s not like he butchered the spirit behind the books. Besides, you dont see a lot of movies where moonbat Sting dies in a very painful manner.

Though I didn’t care for the miniseries portrayal of the Navigators Guild. I preferred the way the 1970s movie portrayed them.

The first “Dune” movie held the title for “worst film adaptation” right up until Travolta’s awful “Battlefield Earth” took over.

The SciFi mini-series of Dune was excellent, however.

Dune? Really? We need to make THAT again?

There are thousands of terrific sci-fi books out there and yet: Dune. AGAIN.

Get over it.

It’s too bad Frank Herbert left such a small amount of source material. They’re going to run out of scripts in 80 or 90 years.

Memorized within a day of first reading Dune

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past
I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear.

I wish the screenwriter luck. Considering how much stuff occurs in people’s heads, weird lexicon, and the convulted plot (in a good way) it must be a nightmare to try to write a screenplay.

AMEN!

What about Honor Harrington, Kris Longknife, Miles Vorkosigan, Ender Wiggin, Torrin Kerr and other awesome characters getting overlooked by re-re-remakes?

There are few directors I'd trust with Miles or Kris. Maybe Peter Jackson.

It was sort of interesting. Max Von Sydow is always good. Kyle McLaughlin was alright and nut case Sean Young was pretty hot in it. LOL! Sting getting his arse kicked.

Oh and Jurgen Prachnow from Das Boot too. Possibly the best war movie ever made. You felt like you were in that sub.

Off topic a little...what is the consensus on “Caprica” so far? I’m turned off by the “Evil Monotheistic Religion” meme, but kind of interested in the story line.

did you watch BSG????the whole thing fits together with BSG and polythesim/monotheism (and the connection to the Adama family) and as such appears predictable to me...but I could be surprised...I set my DVR, and watch it at my leisure...I am not hooked yet....

I got lost in BSG and stopped watching..but I did recognize the Adama link.

I haven’t really become invested in a SF show since the Richard Dean Anderson Stargate series.

Didn’t like Star Trek Enterprise either...would like to see a continuing Dune series attempted though...that could be worth watching.

and If you havent seen Star Trek the new movie....go now...rent it in Bluray....it is phenominal...IMHO anyway.

Although after becoming a Christian

Certainly the Bene Gesserit were not a good example
of a Christian Sisterhood

But the Powerful Admonition to
not give a place for Fear in our Hearts
Is almost unparalleled in recent Literature

I guess because I view it as sci-fi, it doesn’t bother me. I really like that they are fleshing out the culture of Caprica and the conflict that arises when a new group of people with a new religion arrives. And it ties in very well to BSG and the original BSG.

Men of a Certain Age is a great new series...Ray Romano, Bakula and Andre Braugher.

What about the "Taurons as victims" thing they are starting? I guess there has to be an "us vs. them" thing going on, but am wary of it becoming very PC.

The "dirt-eaters" slam at Morales was a turn-off to me. Anyway, I will watch for a while to see what develops.

This has got to be one of the hardest books to make into a movie, yet they still try.

I think a Mechwarrior movie might be difficult too, it has complex plots of royal intrigue with a warrior’s ethos infused in the pilots of the Mechs along with mercenaries and other characters.

It could be awesome or awesomely bad, they could use the games or the novels for source material:

Scripture tells us in many ways not to fear...Jesus says fear not for I am with you unto the end of the earth...I have face many fears in my 70+ years and its a great way to lose the fear.....I always hope for the best, plan for the worse and no matter what happens I am prepared...Jesus faced his fears in the garden before his crucifixion, even to ask that the cup may be taken from Him, and put all in His fathers hands.

Facing ones fears and letting them pass through you without leaving any fears behind is not unscriptural.

Sometimes I will talk to the fear and say "it is written I was given a spirit of faith not fear"....that alone can cause it to leave in some cases...

When Jesus was tempted after going into the wilderness for 40 DAYS and satan appeared to him, He answered all questions, starting with "IT IS WRITTEN',,

Some of our fears are natural, ie: fire, hurricane etc. but some fears come from area's we really should not have fears..."It is written" takes care of those fears cause I usually am given a scripture that will follow. Some fears I just ignore as being silly....

I do live alone with my dog and have told my kids if I fall down the basement steps and die, if Pepper has chewed on me a little, don't forget she has to eat if I am there or not..But all 5 of them know I am a few degree's off center, plus it keeps them keeping tabs on me....Bless you..........GG
