OK, I am an idiot. Where do I go to read about things such as: how do I set up a ping?

Everything you need to know about pinging can be found here.

"DOn't you think you are pushing your luck, posting two vanities in two days with essentially the same topic? "

Yeah yeah. I know. But no, I'm just a slow learner. Thank you sir, may I have another?

And yes, pretty sure the PC is plugged in. Hilarious, quite.

And I even know what a ping is.

What I don't get... and, btw, I've stumbled around & figured out a few things on my own being, you know, a really really bright guy... but what I have not figured out is how to arrange to be pinged for each new Amy's List post/comment.

And yes, I do STILL know I am STILL an idiot. I'm sure you were wondering.

But... instead of me sitting & searching for this and the next 5 things that baffle me... is there an FAQ ? I'm seriously sorry to be stupid. But... is there a users guide?

And another thing, a ping list should have a snappy name... like “The Mangled Genitals Ping List” (yes there is one) and cool graphics.

I'm both intrigued and horrified by the existence of such a ping list.

Must.

be.

added.

One more thing, it is FReeper Tradition that every ping list include Arthur McGowan.

No, we all pretty much do it on our own.

I haven’t read your new thread all the way through, yet, but most people keep their “ping list” in a separate file, or maybe on their home page.

When you want a whole group of people to read a certain post, you put ALL their names in the “To” part of the post, with each name separated by a semicolon. If you have a group of name of FRiends already on a list, you just cut and past the list into the “To” section. Just make sure each name is separated by a semicolon.

I’m hoping a bunch of n00bs come to this thread; first of all, they’re fun to play with. Second, FReepers will eventually tell them how to do what they want to do, on the forum. ;-D

Hope you are having a good day.

If you learn to use search, you’ll be lightyears ahead of the game.

Searching by keywords such as “pinglist” is an example.

FR is very user friendly. If you want to be on someones ping list(a subject interests you), just Freepmail or post to that person and they will add you to the list.

BTW. Freepers don’t like vanity posts and have a very good memory as to yesterdays posts.

Good luck! Noobie!

No Pumpkin, I'm a bit tougher than that. Thanks for asking.

Where do I go to read about things such as: how do I set up a ping?

Are you asking how to set up a ping list or how to get on a ping list? Or are you wanting to know how to ping someone individually?

To set up a ping list:

  1. Announce you are starting a ping list.
  2. Use wordpad or notepad to save the list of names.
  3. As people ask to be added to your ping list, cut and paste their names, separated by semi-colons, into the file.
  4. Save it on your desktop so it's always handy.
To get on a ping list:
  1. Ask the person who holds the ping list to add your name.
To ping someone individually:
  1. Place their screen name into the To: on the reply screen.
Pinging the FR Welcome Wagon list.
