A surgeon in New Zealand has received a dressing down for swearing at a severely obese patient. The New Zealand Herald newspaper reports the doctor said "f..." at least three times after the 44-year-old obese woman told him she did not like the word "diet" and preferred the term "lifestyle".
They are both correct.
She should lose weight and he was unprofessional.
Now she has to find a new doctor and he has to take a communications class.
I think I sympathize with the doc.
He was right. She should listen.
What a world..we cannot even stand to HEAR words anymore...YOU’RE FAT FAT FAT...and any fat woman who says she is happy with her size is lying lying lying.
Stupid sow doesn’t have ears for this world.
She preferred “lifestyle” in order to exploit everyone’s natural assumption that ALL are ENTITLED to life —life, lifestyle, same differentce, right? Riiiiiight...!
She also preferred THAT word because it minimizes the importance of her lifelong decision to eat anything under the sun, making it JUST ANOTHER CHOICE, and therefore UNIMPORTANT.
Uhh...sorry you fat pig from hell, but there is an outside world, ya know...
New liberal commandment: Thou shalt be free from BAD VIBES.
well how “obese” was she? seriously obese or a little over weight. I hate how we’ve all excepted that plump is now obese.
And I personally don’t care. if she wants to be fat thats her choice and why does the doctor care enough to swear?
Some of you, in addition to having no compassion, clearly didn’t even bother to read the article.
The woman wanted to lose weight, she was there to get a gastric bypass surgery to lose weight. She preferred to talk about lifestyle. Why couldn’t the doctor say she will need to follow a healthy lifestyle, along with the surgery? It would have meant the same thing. Instead, he told her “you are going on a f...ing diet”.
Of course not even considering that she is EMPLOYING the doctor, so she is a CUSTOMER. How would any of you like it, if people you are hiring to perform a service would curse you out?
I’m fat. Not morbidly obese, but I have a big gut that I really need to work on. All the women in my life pick on me about it, but that’s OK. Sooner or later I will be sufficiently motivated to do something about it.
The point is, I call it fat. I know I am fat. I take full responsibility for being fat. No need to sugarcoat it.
I am pretty sure this doctor has had just about as much PC crap as he was willing to listen to and decided to clue the FAT woman in on things.
Obese enough for gastric bypass surgery. That’s not something normally considered for a bit of a spare tire.
People don’t go to the doctor to hear that crap. I think people know they are fat and need to diet. The doctor’s role should be objective, honest, and accurate.
The Truth Hurts
Really, a professional doctor should advise her to lose weight and offer help/programs, then mind his own damn business. He does not own her mind, spirit nor her body. Which is what gets mixed up in socialist societies and cultures where anointed “betters” become belligerent and disrespectful towards their lessors. In the extreme this socialist attitude can lead to a bureaucratic decision to imprison or kill the lessors.
All the pigs are equal; some more equal than others.
We got some good fascism juice going, I see. Stay classy! Your day is coming.
She saw the surgeon precisely to have gastric bypass surgery, to lose weight.
The doctor, instead of telling her that she also needs to follow a health lifestyle, told her “you are going on a f*&ing diet”.
What a concept, you are responsible for your self..
I guess you are not a liberal?
Liberals would blame it on everyone else rather than except responsibility for there own actions..
Ya think the doctor was being honest and accurate?
That zepplin-like swine’s day will come sooner. Did she join a gym? Join and quit a week later? I’ve seen it a million times.....
I, too, was fat. I ran my keister off, and lifted up a storm. I probably read an hour or more PER DAY for 3 months about little tips for “how to”. A lot of people couldn’t believe it was the same person.
MANY DAYS I didn’t want to exercise —many days I STILL don’t want to.
After years, I have seen MAAAANY cases where trainers encourage these people, and MOST of the session is this Jabba The Hut declaring, “it’s too hard” —super clear how he/she got there in the first place, and yet more clear that THERE is where they’ll stay.
Now we have this miracle surgery, and these “have it all now, in return for zero consequences” people are deciding yet again that THIS is the quick ticket.
It is —for AWHILE. Then, sure enough, things turn around.
If you dig a little, often you find out that they have no idea how to structure their eating decisions, and exercise is “too hard”. That, or they don’t have enough time —they wake up right before work, then work themselves into a good fatigue, then come home utterly exhausted to hungry kids.
HOW ABOUT GOING TO SLEEP EARLY, WAKE UP EARLY, THEN EXCERCISE?
The doc was right.
I hire for results. If I’m doing something that guarantees failure, I WANT someone in my face, even if I’m paying for it.
I didn’t spend 25 years in the military just to melt when someone cusses.
Our kids pediatrician once asked our kids about guns in the home. After the kids got done describing the 100th gun, she never asked again. I wonder why?
If you don’t want the truth, then DON’T ask. That applies even if you are a paying customer.
Well, that’s just not cool. Assuming you’re a guy, and I’ve seen enough of your posts. What if you went to the dr. And he says to you, “wow you have a f’n small c@#k. He’s being honest and accurate. But he’s also asking to get his face pounded.
“We got some good fascism juice going, I see. Stay classy! Your day is coming.”
And to paraphrase Martin Niemoeller (with apologies, but the principle is the same):
“First they came for the smokers and I didn’t speak out, because I wasn’t a smoker — let’s judge them, curse them out instead
Then they came for the obese and I didn’t speak out, because I wasn’t obese — let’s judge them, curse them out instead
Then they came for the elderly and I didn’t speak out, because I wasn’t old — let’s judge them, curse them out instead, do they want to live forever, let them die!
Then they came for the chronically ill and I didn’t speak out, because I wasn’t ill — let’s curse them out, they are using healthcare too much, do they want to live forever, let them die!
Then they came for me, and there was nobody left to speak out for me.”
“I didn’t spend 25 years in the military just to melt when someone cusses.”
Good for you, but that poor woman went to the doctor for help and I doubt she spent 25 years in the military.
All she asked for is to talk about changing her lifestyle, not call it “diet”. Does that deserve the curse outburst of the surgeon?
I’m assuming you’re fat.
Ham On It!
Hildy to Sara: “I’m assuming you’re fat.”
I am assuming Sara has COMPASSION, unlike you.
Compassion, excuses —are you on the right website?
Everybody is meeeeean —except YOU..! YOU CARE MORE...!
I am sorry you lost me at the wow.
Assumtion is, no doubt, the root of your mistaken sense of superiority over others.
Hildy, the day is going to come when you are not going to be so high and mighty and you are going to be dependent upon the compassion and mercy of other people. What you do comes back to you; so get it right while you still can.
I say this to you knowing that I have work to do in the mercy and compassion department of my life as well.
My point is that this lady didn’t deserve to be cursed at by her doctor. People don’t go to the doctor to be demeaned.
He doesn’t seem to have a communications problem, but her ears seem to be blocked by lard deposits!
I sometimes wonder why I involve myself in some of these discussions and with whom I am debating. Some folks seem like they don’t get out and mingle with humans.
“I doubt she spent 25 years in the military.”
That would explain the lard...
He walked into her room, told her she was too fat and if she didn't lose weight it would kill her. He then walked out...Hard news for patient, but total truth. He was not know to pussy foot around a problem. He charted exactly what he told her....patient charts are legal documents. And once something is written it cannot be white out or crossed off...not even on nurse notes..
If you are charting progress or problems with a patient, you can draw a line through what is written, but it must still be readable and then you have to initial it...
This doctor was a dozie..
the first time my brother went to see his new doc the fellow came into the room and said, “okay, mr. what the f*** is wrong with you?” brother decided this was the perfect doctor.
The gift from the gods..
You are correct about folks who lose touch with their humanity, however, it is worth entering into the discussion with a reminder.
It has been interesting to watch this evolve. Socialists for so long manipulated the good will and compassion of Americans to forward their schemes and enslavement.
They created such a backlash that it became knee jerk to discount compassion and human dignity in a freedom sort of way which has nothing to do with socialism. Does that make any sense?
I wonder if she prefers “getting to see God ahead of schedule” over “dead by fatness”.
He should not have used that _F_ word. He should have politely and honestly used the other _F_ word: fat. She should have deferred to his advice to begin with instead of mouthing crazy, typically domineering, militancy talk about her health problem.
Baseless pride makes us worse. Humility is a vehicle to improving ourselves. We should all get in better shape.
It does make sense.
I really have to watch my freeper time(its a lot) sometimes. I believe there are nutty people on both sides of the spectrum. And I can’t take what’s on FR as gospel. Many on here are not in touch with reality.
I’ve learned a lot tonight on about 5 threads I’ve visited.
I would love to write a book on the political climate and fallicies of liberalism. I would address the bs of man-made climate change, the bs of second hand smoke, asbestos, and other fallacies.
Nice to meet you ;o)
No one is ultimately getting out young, healthy and alive! ;)
Maybe the NZ doctor also works on sheep. Sheepherders probably pay better than NZ Nationalized health.
As someone who has battled weight her whole life I’m telling you the best thing that ever happened to me is when someone I cared about took me aside and told me I needed to lose weight. The first one was my Father when I was 15 years old. I was crushed, but I wanted him to be proud of me and I lost weight and it was the best thing I did for myself as a 15 year old girl. The next time would be over 20 years later. My best friend had the guts to tell me what nobody else would, that I was as big as she’d ever seen me. I couldn’t lie to myself anymore and I lost 40 pounds in the next three months and have worked my ass off (so to speak) to never put it back on again. four years later I am 120 pounds, a size 4 and I have earned the right to say the things I do.
I’ll say it again, any woman who tells you she is happy being fat is LYING and would give years of her life to be thin. That’s just a fact.
I don’t define compassion as making people feel ok about the things they have the power to change. There are very few things we really have control over in life. Our weight is one of them. Sue me.
You have it all wrong..it’s not superiority..IT IS COMPASSION because I have been on both sides..and I know.
