I met him many years ago. He lived not far from my fathers home.
The inventor of the SWAT concept, and militarization of the police. Hope somebody kicks his hospital room door in by mistake.
I read his book and lived in LA during the Rodney King to OJ period.
He was a fine public servant. I think he was there when they burned out the “Symbionese Liberation Army” (Patty Hearst era) in a house. He was also there during the crack cocaine, high murder rate era. He never succumbed to political correctness.
The SLA shootout was a fine example of LAPD ‘efficiency’.
When I lived in California, Daryl Gates was considering a run for Governor of California.
I was going to support him in his bid....I was going to campaign for him, too. But when Gates started in with his gun-grabbing nonsense, especially his war on semi-automatic rifles, I gave up on him completely. That being said, I hope he feels better.
I thought that he was a great guy.
I personally witnessed his police force metting out "street justice" on non-violent pro-lifers.
My friend's wife didn't know she was pregnant, and ended up miscarrying due to Daryl Gates allowing his guys to use nunchuks.
May Daryl Gates be dragged face first through a large pile of horse manure, just like he allowed his officers to practice.
Tell us. How do you feel about Daryl Gates?
Prayers for his health.
