CPAC hasnt even officially started and already its making news. Mediaite has learned that leading center-right web site Hot Air has been acquired by Salem Communications for an undisclosed sum. Hot Air is one of the biggest, most influential conservative sites on the Web and was launched on April 24, 2006, with Michelle Malkin as founder/CEO (though she remains editorially focused on her own blog MichelleMalkin.com and her own writing and television appearances.) Hot Air is managed on a day-to-day basis by editors Ed Morrissey and the mysterious AllahPundit, who are reported to be part of the deal in the sale of to Salem, and absolutely essential to the core value of Hot Air. We are told that, from a users perspective, Hot Air will remain the same despite the change in ownership.

I hope she made out like a bandit.
That’s what I was about to say.
I’d consider Michelle firmly right - right where I am.
Totally agree. MM is very firmly right.
Hey, what’s the deal here? Where are the obligatory MM pictures!?!?!?!? Come on guys, don’t disappoint me, I need my fix!
Good for Michelle!
Hot Air was purchased from conservative commentator Michelle Malkin, who launched the site in 2006. Bloggers Ed Morrissey and Allahpundit have been the sites mainstays and have built a wide audience within the conservative blogosphere.
I have always respected Michelle Malkin and the insights and opinions presented by Hot Air, said Garthwaite, who will serve as general manager of Townhall/Hot Air. I look forward to working with Ed Morrissey and Allahpundit during a critical period in determining our countrys future.
While the two sites will be operated under the same umbrella, they will remain separate entities, and both Morrissey and Allahpundit will stay on as the sites bloggers, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.
Salem already has a significant presence in the conservative and Christian talk radio markets, broadcasting and syndicating the shows of Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Hugh Hewitt and others.
The company owns 94 radio stations as well as a magazine and book publisher in the conservative and Christian markets.
Tom Perrault, senior vice president of Salems Web radio division, said, The addition of Hot Air doubles the size of Salems expanding footprint in online conservative commentary.
Hot Air has experienced phenomenal growth beyond our wildest expectations, said Malkin in the statement. With its established radio platform and fast-growing Internet brands, Salem is perfectly positioned to take Hot Air to the next level as a conservative multimedia powerhouse.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
