I was in Cincinnati still. It was a few years before we moved to Texas. I was only a bit older then 15, but I was looking forward to getting my license the next year.
It would have been the guys your age i was wanting to emulate. As it was Becky and I split, and I met the future Mrs Hawks two years later when we moved to Texas.
Heh. IMO you’re lucky you didn’t really get the chance to emulate us. I am very disappointed in the Boomer generation....they seem to be running the country now (into the ground) and they’re still as air-headed as ever.
You.....on the other hand.......had the good luck to run into the future Mrs. Hawks and stay out of the mainstream insanity that was the sixties.
The “Baby Boomers” blew it.......big time.
I can put a set of brakes on and swap an air filter out on my 03 Ranger stretch. I have forgotten so much but it gives 0 trouble. My other pet project that I hope to do something with is my 73 Jeep. One of my main immediate goals is to get rid of that old points system in it and get an electronic ignition replacement it it. I went to a parts house sometime back and the guy at the counter had no idea what points were.
LOL! on that last. Dang.
I still have a timing gun in the garage toolbox. I haven’t used it in a *long* time.
I have a tach/dwellmeter still in the box new. I used to have a timing light but that was years ago.
Thanks! We used to drive to Cheyenne for stock car races on Saturday nights, spend the night sleeping in cars at the drag strip and then drag race all Sunday. It was usually “run what you brung” at the drag races.
