Tehran: An Iranian nuclear scientist who went missing in Saudi Arabia has landed up in a US jail, Mehr news agency said Tuesday quoting a senior official, as Tehran urged Western powers to show they can be trusted.
Foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told Mehr that the scientist, Shahram Amiri, was handed over to US officials by Saudi Arabia and is one of 11 Iranians being held in US jails.

Interesting how nobody thinks that LC could be living a whole brand new life almost anywhere right now, of his own free will..... but people suspected this man was capable of doing so....
AND now I am very curious why the Western MSM appears to avoid mentioning the MOIS, apparently at all costs.
Anyway, IF there is serious suspicion that Iran's Ministry of Information & Security has nabbed Lachlan Cranswick, THAT, in itself, would explain why there has been so little reportage about this physicist disappearing.
Interestingly, one of the Anglican Cranswick bishops of an earlier generation sent many Christian missionaries to Iran.
No idea about Dr. Lachlan M.D. Cranswick’s mysterious disappearance!
>>>>”AND now I am very curious why the Western MSM appears to avoid mentioning the MOIS, apparently at all costs.”
As for Western MSM, like I said in a previous recent thread: “I think, maybe, MSM and others see MOIS as an entity more internal to Iran & Iranians, which concentrates on terminating Iranian dissidents. But, the mandate & actions of MOIS are really much more Global than that.”
I've never considered them "internal" - I've always considered them and the Iranian Republican Guard to have a globalwide reach, but maybe the MSM considers the term Hezbullah as all inclusive, to refer also to its sponsor the MOIS??
Anyway, Stratfor frequently points out that when ONE intel agency does something, that the automatic response is for the intel agency of the other country to replicate in kind.
And therefore I don't find it in the least conspiratorial to wonder if LC was kidnapped and shipped away on the 'Tehran Express.'
The Baseej (also spelt Basij) para-military (militia), which falls under the command of IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp) are also known as “Ansar_e Hezbollah”. Not the same Hezbollah in the Lebanon, but same ideology & a line of command linked to the Supreme Leader of IRI in Iran.
The basis for MOIS (aka VEVAK) was SAVAK (the organization, which was created during the Shah’s era).
MOIS is distinct from the Baseej (Ansar_e Hezbollah) in that MOIS, shortly after its creation under the Khomeinist (IRI) Regime in Iran, evolved and became an Intelligence & Security Agency, the equivalent of Mossad or the CIA.
MOIS is said to be responsible for eliminating Iranian Political dissidents particularly outside Iran. It is also responsible, for example, for infilterating various Iranian Political groups, collecting intelligence, and feeding disinformation both inside, and particularly outside Iran.
>>>>”I don’t find it in the least conspiratorial to wonder if LC was kidnapped and shipped away on the ‘Tehran Express.’”
Sorry if I am not being too lucid at the moment. It is late at night here. More on this perhaps tomorrow. :)
>>> "I have just heard the latest DR rumor that a body has been found in Welsh Bay in the Ottawa River, just downstream from the town....
No confirmation as yet. I will post as soon as I hear anything more." <<<
trivia: that was the week Obama made his grand tour of the Middle East and that butt-sucking speech in Cairo.
That's also the week two female American "journalists" linked to Al Gore & Joel Hyatt were sentenced to 12 yrs imprisonment in North Korea for "unspecified hostile acts." Their border crossing stunt apparently weakened South Korea at the negotiating table.
RE: Canada - Lachlan Cranswick, 41, Deep River near Ottawa ON, 18 Jan 2010 - #4 (http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105966)
After reading Lachlan's blog, I always go back to the nano technology section. Seemed he was most upset over nano in the way of science/government money etc. But then he was enjoying nature's fire in the sky photography more recent pictorial posts.
But then I see the dating site the websleuths post and wonder if he was set up by someone who knew him, like the suspect was it the RW guy.(sorry doing this from distant memory). The killer cop.
Suggested he was looted with the club money/deposits. Seems the deposits would not have been that large to warrant being murdered over. A ski mask in winter would have been sufficient.
The guy found in the river-not seasonally dressed meaning too lightly dressed? Could go back to suicide. Maybe he just walked out on life. He left voluntarily. Just being a scientist and working at the Deep River facility gives it more attention, plus the places he traveled, the people who visited Deep River from around the world-summer camps etc.
The authorities had to have gone over that house in details for evidence.
Sometimes we think too hard or maybe it's just too big for us to ever uncover.
I still think he looks like one of the guys, I pointed it out,(no one else picked up on it, so it just be me stretching) that "played the shell game" in the assassination of that weapons dealer and Hamas official Mahmoud al-Mabhouh,in a Dubai hotel last January after LC was discovered missing-all those fake passports, all coming and going under security cameras, all quickly dissappeared-couple back into Iran. The photos were doctored or fake. He didn't look the same in some of the spontaneous friends/photos we viewed in everyday life.
It is extremely easy to obtain passports in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, without resorting to identity theft ( Aussie source.) "Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO), confirmed that there have been occasions where ASIS [Australian Secret Intelligence Service, whose mission is equivalent to the CIAs] has undoubtedly provided documentation for friendlies [...].
Then the shooting of an Australian citizen on board the Gaza Freedom Flotilla caused unrest. The Moussad agent (no name) now just expelled from "down under" suspected of having to do with the 12 fake passports of suspected agents. Maybe "just the guy". A message.
Just LC home Aussie background, loner, genius, doing a job-best not to make friends as you will leave at some point scenario [?].No ties when you walk away. Just makes up my spy theory. What does a spy really look like? ;)
I don't want this to be murder, I do not what this to be suicide, would rather believe Lachlan Cranswick was part of ongoing intelligence that moves in the shadows doing what government elected leaders cannot do because of bureaucratic incompetence he certainly blogs about government, science and its dangers, related money, scams.. enters my reasons for clandestinity.
If I find the discussion again over there, I'll let you know here, with a link to the page where it commences.
"Various features of the people in the photographs, such as eye color or the line of a lip, were changed - slightly enough so as not arouse suspicion at passport control, but still enough that the real agent could not be recognized."
Here you go, these two google searches should locate the threads where the discussions took place at Websleuths. I noticed the date immediately as I was avidly following all the news reports about Meir Dagan and his Mossad -— topics which normally NEVER appear in the news. So when someone depicted as a nuclear scientist disappeared at the very same time, of course I was curious.
But it is YOUR work on the photos which I’m positive made it a discussion elsewhere.
As yet, we still have NO idea if any body was actually recovered from the Ottawa River, near Deep River, it’s still only a RUMOR.
At Lachlan’s Facebook page, someone inquires of his elder brother Noel if it is correct that Lachlan was found on Friday.
There is no reply to the question; as yet, it all remains a rumor.
1993-2002 each has title.
I think I also recall some websleuthers mentioning that LC seemed to have stopped taking pictures, after having been an avid photographer for many years.
The WS'rs have compiled links from Canadian newspapers:

Offhand, I don't know of anyone else missing from DR.
Thanks hennie pennie!
And goodnight all, (again) I really mean it this time.
"I heard today that the clothing on the body recovered in Welsh Bay matched what LC was believed to be wearing when he disappeared, but it may take a while to confirm identity.

A body believed to be that of missing National Research Council scientist Lachlan Cranswick was pulled from the Ottawa River on Friday.
OTTAWA - A body pulled from the Ottawa River near Deep River on Friday is almost certainly that of Lachlan Cranswick, the National Research Council scientist who went missing earlier this year, according to a friend of Cranswick's.
The case of the 41-year-old physicist who worked at the Chalk River Laboratories, baffled police in January. Cranswick, unmarried and originally from Australia, was last seen on the 18th of that month, and appeared to have put out his garbage the next morning. Only four days later, after he failed to turn up a curling event, did the search begin. But the trail was cold, with nothing to suggest either foul play or suicide. His wallet and laptop were in his unlocked home and his car was parked there, too. Extensive ground searches using dogs and helicopters also found nothing.
But on Monday, Chris Knight, a friend of Cranswick's, said police have informed the scientist's family in Australia that the body pulled from the river is all but officially confirmed to be his.
"They've been told that the clothes and identification on the body that was recovered virtually confirm that it's him," Knight said. "They have to do the forensic work to give a 100-per-cent confirmation, but there's virtually no doubt that it's him."
Knight said there will be a full autopsy, which could shed some light on how Cranswick died.
Cranswick enjoyed the ski-snowshoe trails, Knight said, but exactly how he ended up in the river, which was covered in only thin ice at the time, is still unexplained.
There had been spottings of wolves in the previous weeks,â said Knight, a retired scientist. "In fact, one fellow I talked to the other day told me that he had actually been chased by them. He had to hustle and run into the townsite."
"It's pure speculation on my part, but I don't see Lachlan as someone who was going to go out and try to walk across the river ... when the conditions weren't great, but he may have been forced into the situation.
If the autopsy concludes that Cranswick fell through the ice and drowned, it may never be known whether he was chased by wolves.
"We won't know that," said Knight. "We'll just know he went through the ice."
Knight said the family has decided to have Cranswick's body cremated and his ashes sent to Australia.

Authorities in Malta have reported the death of a senior Russian expert on nuclear disarmament, whose body was discovered in his holiday apartment. Dr. Alexander Pikayev, 48, was the director of the Department of Disarmament and Conflict Resolution at the Moscow-based Institute of World Economy and International Relations.
His work on nuclear armaments policy is internationally recognized and he was among Russia's most visible media commentators on issues relating to nuclear proliferation.
But last Wednesday, Dr. Pikayev's body was discovered lying on the floor of an apartment he owned in Bugibba, Malta, where he had been holidaying since earlier this month.
The German Press Agency reports that the Russian scientist appeared to have "accidentally slipped" and hit his head on a door. It also reports that this hypothesis appears to be corroborated by "dent on a door" next to the body, as well as by the result of an initial autopsy, which concluded that Dr. Pikayev died of intracranial hemorrhage after fracturing his scull.
But Maltese authorities, which were unaware of the dead man's professional identity until last Saturday, refuse to comment on the investigation until the outcome of an official magisterial inquiry, which includes further forensic tests, becomes known.
