All of that came crashing down early Saturday morning when Starks, a 19-year-old from Atlanta, was arrested and charged with armed robbery, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime charges that could result in a lengthy prison term if Starks is found guilty.
The victim in the case is one of Starks' own coaches at The Citadel, assistant coach Joshua Harpe of West Ashley.
A police affidavit states Starks pointed "a handgun (semiauto) at the victim, struck him once in the head with the handgun and ordered him back into (the) apartment ... The defendant ... then bound the victim with black duct tape around his legs, mouth and eyes and threw him face down on the living room floor."

The crime immediately caught the attention of sheriff's deputies probing a break-in that happened Feb. 24 on Woodland Shores, Clark said. In that incident, two "fit" men with ski masks, gloves and a silver revolver surprised 21-year-old Herbert Joseph Butler III and a woman while he was cooking steaks in the back yard, a police report states.
Butler's female visitor told deputies she answered a knock on the door at 10 p.m. and found a woman standing outside. The stranger asked to use the phone, explaining that her car had broken down. When Butler's friend turned around, the woman and two masked men forced their way inside and shoved her to the ground, a police report states.
The intruders bound Butler and the woman with duct tape and demanded to know where the money was, a police report states. They smacked him in the face and ripped through his home, stealing a flat-screen television, a DVD player and several DVDs. One of the men also forced the female victim to perform a sex act at gunpoint, a police report states.
The victims didn't call deputies until the next morning. The woman told deputies she was scared because the robbers had threatened her and she worried they still were watching her movements. Butler, who told deputies he thought he heard a third robber during the break-in as well, said he didn't call for help earlier because he didn't have a phone and desperately needed to sleep, a police report states.
Sniff. Sniff. Sniff. Fails.
Huh? She was afraid and he needed to sleep? What’s wrong with this picture?

I don’t know about you but if I was just bound and gagged how would I call police?...this makes no sense whatsoever. Still they seem to be a bunch of dirtbag thugs who deserve some huge inmates when imprisoned....
“Whats wrong with this picture?”
Sounds like a drug house hit to me. One of his accomplices was arrested for statutory rape earlier as well. Nice group.
What’s wrong is that they were, in Willie Nelson’s words, “slippin’ around” and would have had to ‘splain why she was there. Maybe I’ve been a lawyer too long, but that was my first thought.
Colonel, USAFR
“as a sophomore, you live in the barracks,”
Heard some locals saying this morning that some of the Citadel students have off campus apartments for use on Fri/Sat night when granted liberty?
future Bengal.
Well, since Jamarcus Russell hasn’t exactly worked out too well in Oakland, I wonder if Mr. Davis knows about this young man..... (full disclosure: sadly, I am a Raiders fan)
We so need a good QB, and since now he won’t be finishing college anyway.... knowI’msayin’?
“Sniff. Sniff. Sniff. Fails.”
Or, the house needed a lot of cleaning up before police got there.
What’s wrong with this picture?
First thoughts have a way of coming up right...
We did have some beach houses but they were only authorized by company and then I’m not sure they were really authorized. There was an official Citadel Beach house on Sullivan’s Island. I can’t believe a sophomore would have enough liberty to make an apartment practical. Who paid for it?
How nice.
Did this guy really go thru whatever they call rat year at Citadel and live the Corps life and then rob his coach at gunpoint and the rest?
really drives home that thug cannot be excised from everyone
i guess Honor Court never really meant much to this chump
man...how they killed several great military institutes with all their social engineering
You can take the man out of the ______ but you can't take the ______ out of the man.
Yep. Killed and unlamented in the rush to “social progress.”
