National Enquirer: GRAND JURY TO INDICT EDWARDS
National Enquirer ^ | March 3, 2010 | National Enquirer

Posted on 03/03/2010 10:50:37 AM PST by Beaten Valve

The ultimate fall from grace, a Federal grand jury is about to indict John Edwards, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

In another shocker, close sources say Edwards' estranged wife Elizabeth could help send the former presidential candidate to jail!

Edwards, the disgraced two-time Presidential loser, is being investigated by the feds, including the FBI and IRS, for possible campaign violations related to paying his mistress Rielle Hunter.

The grand jury has been meeting since April 2009, and insiders say an indictment is imminent.

"John is terrified that he's going to be indicted," a friend told The ENQUIRER.

"While he believes he's done nothing illegal in trying to hide his extramarital affair with Rielle and their daughter, he thinks the Feds are going to make an example of him."

Since they broke this story, I'm inclined to trust the Enquirer's sources.

Haha, they wouldn’t be indicting him for “hiding” his mistress and their love child, they would be indiciting him for theft of campaign funds.

Who is Edwards going to sue now? LOL!

The main difference between the National Enquirer reporters and most of the leftist media is that they actually do research rather than just regurgitate talking points.

This is the type of man responsible for soaring health costs. He collected millions from obgyns for alleged mistakes they made in delivering babies.

Women die in childbirth, babies are born with palsy, etc. Always have, always will. Enter a John Edwards and you have drs that pay a million dollars a year for obstretric malpractice insurance.

Live by the sword....

Well, it does stand to reason that paying to keep some poontang in a secret location would not qualify as a legal use of federal campaign matching funds. So, I'm inclined to believe the story too.

yeah the guy Rolling Stone(d) once gushed over as “The
Real Liberal”

>>If he weren’t rich, handsome and so well married, you might feel a little sorry for John Edwards. Never before in the 231-year history of our republic have the inalienable traits that Edwards possesses — his fair skin and a Y chromosome — been anything but a prerequisite for presidential politics. Today, his race and gender stand a chance of derailing his campaign altogether...But counting Edwards out would be a big mistake. Flying below the radar, the former vice-presidential candidate is pulling off a feat that Democratic consultants have long considered impossible: staking out the most progressive platform among the viable candidates while preserving an aura of electability.

The BIG secret is out of the bag as mainstream media trumpets the historic news that the NATIONAL ENQUIRER has been accepted into the Pulitzer Prize competition for its exhaustive investigation of the John Edwards Conspiracy and Cover-Up.

The scoop was broken by Emily Miller at Huffington Post as rumors of our acceptance into the competition by the prestigious journalism committee ignited the blogosphere.

“The Pulitzer Prize Board has officially accepted The National Enquirer’s submissions for breaking the John Edwards scandal, according to sources close to the Board. In a historic move, the Pulitzer Board conceded that the self-proclaimed tabloid is qualified to compete with mainstream news outlets for journalism’s most prestigious prize.

“The Enquirer is in the running for the Pulitzer in two categories: “Investigative Reporting” and “National News Reporting” for The National Enquirer staff,” Ms. Miller announced exclusively at HuffPo.

Quickly The New York Times - for many THE Paper of record - made it even more official with their elegant headline: “Enquirer Is Eligible for Pulitzer”. Writer Richard Perez-Pena analyzed the Pulitzer committee’s turn-around in accepting the ENQUIRER entry after initially dismissing the very notion.

The Times reported: Sig Gissler, administrator of the prizes, says he and his colleagues never publicly discuss the eligibility of any specific publication. “We apply our criteria, and if publications meet them, we allow them to participate.”

But with a grassroots effort steamrolling the viral landscape, Gawker.com analyzed the situation point by point in their historic article: “There’s NO Good Reason the National Enquirer Shouldn’t Win a Pulitzer Prize”

And MediaBistro even has a poll (yes, you can vote in it) on whether or not the Pulitzer Committee should award The ENQUIRER investigation into John Edwards’ alleged abuse of campaign funds to fund a conspiracy of silence:

Ms. Miller concluded in her Huffington Post exclusive: “The massive grassroots campaign by the public to push the Pulitzer Board to recognize the national importance of The Enquirer’s reporting of John Edwards shows the best of Americans’ core values - hard work, fairness and equality for all - even for tabloids.”

I'll be interested to see the tax charges. They will be far more serious if they are brought than the campaign finance matters. Its pretty hard to move that much money around in secret without creating a lot of tax liabilities, violating information return requirements and reporting rules. Gross income includes all money from whatever source unless excluded by a code section. A gift is only a gift if made with detached and disinterested generosity. So, when Edwards gives a bunch of money to his now deceased lawyer pal, was that income? Where's the gift? It was intended for Riell so it can have been a gift to the lawyer pal. Then when the lawyer pal gives the money to Riell, is that a gift? Where's the gift tax return? Is there really detached and disinterested generosity?
If they wanted to, there could be a lot of charges.

Are you forgetting who initially broke this story; who never gave up on this story and had the guts to persue it and corner Edwards in a hotel bathroom in the middle of the night (like a trapped rat!) even when the MSM ignored the story?

What, you don't believe it is true because you haven't heard it in the MSM?

The Enquirer has rediscovered hard nosed journalism.

Where were the great giants of Journalism? Where was the New York Times? Where was the Washington Post?

It pains me to say it but it looks like the National Enquirer is doing more investigative journalism than the heavy hitters of the MSM. Maybe it's because the NY Times is no longer a good source of news but is essentially an advocate.
I'm going to be honest. I take to pleasure in the disgrace of Edwards. My religion will not allow me to gloat at the pain of another. But I'm glad the guy is out of politics. And I'm glad he's not going to be around as a political figure. He was always an empty suit to me.
