The audience for Sunday night's Academy Awards grew for the second time in as many years, indicating that live events continue to draw big audiences amid the overall fragmentation of the television landscape.
An average of about 41.3 million people in the U.S. were watching the three-and-a-half-hour show at any given minute, according to preliminary Nielsen Co. estimates, up 14% from last year. It was the biggest audience since 2005, when Best Picture was awarded to the film "Million Dollar Baby."

It was OK, actually.
I guess Hollywood is tired of losing money.
I haven’t watch the Oscars since Empire Strikes Back was up for best special effects.
I miss the old Oscars when there were surprsises, letdowns and various mishaps. When the presenters and winners would arrive to the podium half tanked and full of indignation about some fashionable political outrage.
I was half hoping Kanye would jump on the stage, grab Sandra's Oscar from her hands and give it to Gabby tons o' fun. At least that would've been entertaining!
It doesn't matter that it might have been loose with details. It's a story and literary license provides broad latidtude.
But the general theme of the attraction of danger and that last scene with the hero marching back into action, in the "suit"...that speaks to America.
America is heroic. America will do whatever must be done.
America loves the quietude of family and hometown...but America also loves danger.
America is young enough to remember when our freedom was bought by blood...lots'a blood.
We love danger because we know that danger is the price we pay for family and hometown!

Good. Maybe they will get a clue (but I doubt it). With the winning director and movie thanking our troops and all the men & women who fight for our country and freedom. It was a welcome and fresh change from their usual putrid libtard rantings.

Jeff Bridges won for best actor, his family has been in show business 60 years, he paid a very nice tribute to his mother and father in his acceptance.
ABC boosted attention with an Oprah Winfrey pre-Oscar special in prime time. They also had a prime time special showing the nominees ‘before they were famous’.
I think this helped the Oscar numbers...but I don’t know how well they did in those prime time slots that were ‘wasted’ on Oscar advertising.
You bet. I rented it this weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Good script that kept moving but still looked to deeper themes such as what war can do to a man and how it effects those around him. I was reminded of Lee's quote "It is good war is so terrible lest we grow too fond of it." Good acting and well drawn out characters. You keep watching because you want know what happens to these guys. I give it a five thumbs up.
Yeah, I liked The Hurt Locker too, but I couldn’t understand why they were risking lives to disarm the bombs instead of just clearing the area and setting them off. Who cares if an old car blows up, so long as no one gets hurt. It’s just one less old car that probably ought to be blown up, and I’m sure there are plenty more old cars over there anyway.
Oh, take a Xanax and relax. The Best Picture was won by a film that was pro-American, pro-U.S. military and a rare contemporary war film where the bad guys were actually Jihadis. The Best Director was won by the woman who helmed this picture and who had the grace to thank the troops during her acceptance speech. People here bitch that Hollywood doesn't churn out any pro-American films and then when they finally do, and award it with their highest honors, people here still bitch!
No complaints from me (except, as previously mentioned, the ceremony itself was a little on the boring side).

The "Hurt Locker" was great. What's shameful, though, is how poorly it did in the box office. An action-packed, pro-American military film, the likes of which we've been clamoring for from Hollywood, and nobody went to see it.
It earned a paltry $12 million, a commercial flop by Hollywood standards.
Can anyone small that. It smells like hypocrisy...
