Cellular phone giant Nokia has filed for a patent for a self-regenerating phone battery, or in their own words, a piezoelectric kinetic energy harvester. The patent essentially involves a battery thats contained within a first frame that is coupled to a second frame by one or more piezoelectric elements.
Similar to the concept of kinetic powered watches, which use motion to charge their batteries, Nokias technology proposes generating energy by kinetic movement. Nokia plans to use this energy to at least partially recharge the device battery.

I just became aware of the new catch phrase; “harvesting energy”.
Don’t you just sprinkle a few energy seeds on the ground and wait until they grow???
I wonder how many employees they will lay off to fund this project?/s
I’m reminded of a South Park episode in which they had to keep “recharging” their flashlights.
Perfect for cell phone zombies.

Not a bad idea, a lot of phones are in the pockets of people who are walking around. It worked for self-winding watches, why not for cell phone batteries?
