Yes and no. Sort of by definition, by the time a person is in a position to be elected to high office, he's no longer really poor.
OTOH, we've elected a good many guys to the nation's highest office who grew up in what would today be considered absolute poverty. Off the top of my head: Jackson and Lincoln. Reagan's and Clinton's childhoods would probably be considered poor by most today.

Hillary is a nasty, vicious old feminist hag. She has an arrogance, an ego, and a sense of entitlement second to none. She has a voice that can melt plastic. The media loved her, but chose the black guy. That’s the only favor Obama did us. Quit pining for her, people. She would have stuck it to us good.
I think she has a brain tumor. Its constant swelling is pressuring the few remaining neurons in her skull that are still trying to function (albeit it ineffectively). She probably should be strapped to a gurney and heavily sedated for several years...if not longer.

I was happy to see Hillary get knocked down because her obvious sense of entitlement offended me but the rest of the election, the selection of McCain by the media and then his defeat, made the 2008 election cycle a terrible experience. I just hope we will begin to make things right in 2010.
