A law firm for the driver who says his Toyota Prius sped out of control in California doesn't plan to sue the Japanese automaker.

The Gomez Law Firm issued a statement Thursday, saying it represents James Sikes. It was unclear why the law firm was retained; a phone message to the firm wasn't immediately returned.

Sikes told authorities he was driving near San Diego on Monday when his accelerator stuck. He says the car reached 94 mph before a California Highway Patrol officer helped him slow down.

The statement said Sikes hopes an investigation will identify what caused the incident

This clown needs a lawyer, maybe several. They will be very useful in helping to explain this guy’s previous bankruptcy, several foreclosures, issues with his Prius loan, and the fraud investigations against him elsewhere in California.

Wonder why the press isn’t looking into this?

My guess is that the guy was planning to take Toyota to the cleaners, but Toyota has discovered his shady past and he is now running for cover.

Just read an article posted on Fark.com that this was a hoax. The guy is $700,000 in debt and had not made payments on his Prius.

We'll see......

“driving near San Diego on Monday when his accelerator stuck”

His accelerator didn’t stick, his car accelerated out of control. If he’s not suing, he needs a new lawyer

Won’t sue? Probably because they realized that the driver’s IP address had been logged in a search for LAW FIRMS prior to the accident?????????

He’s not suing YET.

That’s probably more accurate. If the details of this story are true, he should sue.

What did your meter do when the CHP veteran was killed in a Toyota runaway acceleration? This case may be a hoax, but it isn’t an isolated incident. There is a definite problem with this drive by wire technology. It seems to be not ready for prime time and both Toyota and the NHTSA have known it for several years

If the unwanted acceleration was freaking him out so bad how did he have the presence of mind to call 911?

...this was a hoax..

Maybe, but the Highway Patrol officer who helped him said there was no doubt that the driver was applying his brakes and the car was not slowing down.

Standing on both pedals may do that.

“What did your meter do when the CHP veteran was killed in a Toyota runaway acceleration?”

To be quite honest about it, the meter almost pegged itself on that one also. I still have a hard time believing that modern day brakes, built to be 5 times more powerful as the accompanying car’s engine, failed to stop that or any car.

So yes, sadly I do doubt the facts of that case.
