The problem is WE THE PEOPLE ARE the Government or should be.
Roosevelt campaigned against political corruption, police corruption, unsanitary conditions in the food industry and for things like child labor laws.
People who compare modern day “progressives” with the progressives of TR’s day simply have lost their sense of perspective.
Glenn Beck is a great guy, and right on many issues.
Teddy Roosevelt and preserving lands for public hunting, fishing, hiking, etc., are not two of them.
My Great Great Grandfather was a Republican in politics in New York City at the Time TR was Gov. and admired TR very much.
Teddy Roosevelt was a Great American and a man’s man:
boxer, martial artist, zoologist, big game hunter, explorer, writer, scholar, military science expert, historian, linguist,politician, corruption fighter,rough rider, cowboy, lawman - you name it.
EVERYTHING America and Americans have always admired and respected.
We could use a man like Teddy Roosevelt today.
TR, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, Sarah Palin - all Great Americans cast in similar molds.
Whereas I like the Man Child, but disagree with him on much of his philosophy, I think that MC is well on his way to that place where all good Big L Libertarians eventually wind up-—Laughingstockville.
But, many people have go thru Laughingstockville first to get to Conservative City. Trashing the church should hasten the departure.

Nope, Teddy was no hero. He was the first Progressive Socialist President. Theodore Roosevelt was the exemplar of our current Moderate Republicans, the anathema to today's GOP Conservatives.
I read a double-book biography of this man a few years ago, and just by his background, his life & works, he couldn’t have been the socialist some people think he was. He shouldn’t be put in the same category as FDR (his cousin), Johnson, Kennedys, or Klinton (!!).
TR was worlds away from any of these presidents. And the world of the early 20th century was greatly different than today. He died nearly 100 years ago.
Woodrow Wilson, now, can be called the father of our present disarray.
What part of The U. S. Constitution said that the Federal Government had any authority to attempt to protect citizens from themselves? Teddy was the first one to attempt to remake society in his image and in that sense he was the first to begin slicing the Salami.

Technically that’s true. But in the case of national parks, they needed to be cared for and protected; each state could have done this, however. I don’t think he or anyone else could have envisioned how the government would overreach in the future. The State of Nevada is an example of Fed land, almost the entire state.
Try telling that to Glenn Beck. He thinks he knows history after just discovering the concept of history about 18 months ago.
Its possible to admire TR as a human being, while complaining about the enormous land-holdings in federal hands.
I would like to see most BLM lands privatized, and most parks and national forests handed back to the states. Aside from specific bases and installations, the feds should not be in the business of owning large swaths of land.
There is very little federal land in Texas, and somehow they manage to find places to hunt there. With almost no federal land, there are still plenty of open spaces. They just happen to be private. You have to talk to the landowner if you want to go in there.
I think he would have been appalled at his cousin FDR in the 30s. I’ll tell you what, the bio is in the library and I’ll go thru it again to see where he did the things you accuse him of. Here’s another excerpt from the article:
