There's been a lot of talk on FR about "Civil Disobedience." Back when I was a kid, filthy disease ridden hippies burned their draft cards to protest against the Viet Nam War.
Should we respond to Obamacare by burning our census forms in a public act of civil disobedience?
Does anyone have any better idea?
It’s only a $100 fine for refusing to answer it. Better then the fine for fraudulent answers.

Thats a dumb idea. If most conservatives dont send in their census form (name and 3 people only of course) then the conservative districts will lose out.

All depends... If you live in a solid rat district..., reduce the count. If you live in a solid rep district, inflate the count!
If you live in a red state in a red district then over count the people in your household to help adjust out the illegal immigrants. It’s only fair.
I am taking the American flag down in front of our building tomorrow. I cannot fly this flag because I am NOT a communist. This information is useful for those who believe the questions are intrusive and none of the government’s business. For the Constitutionally required enumeration, the government officials need to know the number of individuals living in your home not the gender, race, etc.

• (a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.
• (b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500.
• (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, no person shall be compelled to disclose information relative to his religious beliefs or to membership in a religious body.
Sec. 222. Giving suggestions or information with intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population
Whoever, either directly or indirectly, offers or renders to any officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof engaged in making an enumeration of population under subchapter II, IV, or V of chapter 5 of this title, any suggestion, advice, information or assistance of any kind, with the intent or purpose of causing an inaccurate enumeration of population to be made, shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

Dogs are people too right? I live in probably the most conservative county in the country (Montgomery County, TX) so it would be good if we had 6 living here rather than 4.

My census form says NOTHING about any fines, so I don’t know about any fines. Per the Constitution, enter the number of individuals living in quarters. DON’T include their names or answer any other questions EXCEPT under race.. There enter “other race”: MIXED (UNKNOWN).
I’m considering telling them more if they BRIBE me. After all, they’re masters at bribery as we’ve just witnessed.

But I “accidentally” spilled coffee on it. Somehow my daughter got it and attempted to fill some of it in with crayons. My dog pulled it off my desk and chewed it for a bit till I realized he had it. Was eating some peanut butter and crackers and when I reached for a napkin I grabbed the form instead, so got my peanut buttery finger prints on it.
Hope they’ll still accept it...
No, don’t burn the form, fill it out and send it in. That data will also be used during the next two conservative administrations. Don’t burn our future, burn a hope and change bumper sticker instead.
$5000 fine now. With the fascism bill signed, the Obama will need all the funds he can get, so I’ll expect a big push to prosecute people and collect $5000 from each.

They can levy a $5,000 fine for not complying, but I listened to an interview of one of the Census bigwigs and they said they’ve never fined anyone. They choose instead to “persuade people how important this information is”.

For example, decrease your withholding to zero, and put it in a savings account instead, denying them the money until March next year when you write your annual income tax check.
If everyone did this at the same time, it would so severely cut off the feds cash flow, they would be crippled.
That’s how I filled mine out ,, number of persons and under each person gave names as jane doe #1 , john doe#1 , baby doe#1 etc. ,, no other questions answered.
That is correct , the fine has never been imposed because the census doesn’t want it tested in court , they will lose.
Since it asks how many people are living in the house as of 4/01/2010, how can I honestly answer that now??? Today is only 3/21/2010!!
