I understand the frustration and your worries about the future.

However, a fair analysis should consider a careful a look at two high profile elections since November 2008: Republican Gov in New Jersey and Brown in Mass. Back in 2008 did anyone think a R would have a chance at winning either of these?

You are correct, RoseofTexas. This isn’t Waterloo. It’s the opening shot in the second Revolutionary War! There can be no doubt, none whatsoever, that we are facing an enemy within our own country.

I can’t remember a time in my life when Congress passed something so polarizing, so blatantly un-American, and so clearly against the will of a majority of voters. Methinks they went too far.

How foolish you are.

General Washington had to deal with idiots like you and despite of people like you the Founders revolted against tyranny.

But, hey, I get it.

For people like you, if it isn’t easy it isn’t possible.

Well written, FRiend. I ain’t in no mood to present my “posterior for the gratification of the socialists” either. This is far from over.

“A new constituency of freeloaders will be created and expanded by this”

Nonsense. Long before any politically significant number of people see benefits from Obamacare a majority will see the cost. The benefits don't start flowing for four years. By then the destruction of the insurance industry will have caused serious pain for many of us as the quality and quantity of medical services decline. There won't be any new freeloaders for years and in the mean time Obamacare will seriously annoy many of the old freeloaders as Medicare starts to absorb cuts. The welfare state can certainly create debilitating dependency, but that's going to work against Obamacare because it is such a serious threat to better established entitlements. Obamacare gives the government the choice between breaking their old promises or breaking their new ones. The old one are going to win out and Obamacare is going to go by the boards, soon.

Your defeatist cynicism isn't sophisticated or smart. It's juvenile and foolish. It's also destructive. If you can't find anything more useful to say, just stockpile ammunition, adjust your tinfoil helmet and maintain radio silence.

My point exactly. And my point isn’t not to fight. My point is, what we’ve been doing — Tea Parties/Palin/Libaugh/GOP Primaries/blah, blah, blah — DOES. NOT. WORK!

B-Chan is a friggin monarchist. Why ANYONE on this Constitution-centered website listens to him is beyond me.

At least I didn't give myself a stupid handle like "dirtboy".

A great many things are beyond you, I suspect.

Now you went and made me do it. I’m (kind of) defending the GOP for the first time in a decade. Based on the numbers in congress, the GOP was totally powerless to stop this. What made this a 14 month battle instead of a 2 week skirmish was talk radio bringing the facts to the people.

The GOP did (finally) stick to it’s guns but was otherwise powerless. The people were opposed but ‘our’ government just ignored all of the rules and the people to shove this through.

The war is not over and I do believe that we will prevail.

“B-Chan is a friggin monarchist. Why ANYONE on this Constitution-centered website listens to him is beyond me.”

B-Chan’s point, I think, is that all democracies tend toward corruption and tyranny. The majority tends to be stupid, self-indulgent and easily deluded, voting itself ever more stuff (or deluded into doing so) at the expense of a minority until the entire system collapses on itself, with a lot of collateral damage between now and then.

I don’t want to agree with him about monarchy — enlightened dicators/kings are the blind luck of the draw — but look up the history of countries like Chile, and there’s a disturbing lesson there. Majority rule can be suicidal.

“The GOP did (finally) stick to it’s guns but was otherwise powerless. The people were opposed but ‘our’ government just ignored all of the rules and the people to shove this through.”

The GOP — including Bush — led us to this point. They paved the way to Obama by abandoning free market principles, binging on government spending and not reforming when they had the chance. There would have been no Obama if the GOP had presented itself as a true contrast. Now, any time they talk about the deficit or government spending, they have absolutely NO moral authority — Dems call them on it, and are right too, weakening the debate against socialism.

Republicans and their families grew fat on government largesse, just like the Dems, making people like Obama a much more palatable option than they would have otherwise been.

People, get a clue. The GOP led us to this disaster. Bush I/Dole/Bush II — all big government accommodators.
