I was about to commence this journey next fall...I still will do so, but, it seems sort of arduous.

You know the LA opera has a Ring cycle on now, and the Met in NYC is doing one in 2010 and 2011. I think Seattle has it running now.

The Met is also running Dutchman in April and May...Houston had Lohengrin back in December. The point being, the performances can be found, and in venues closer than Bayreuth.

Of course...if at all possible, better to go straight to the source....

Wagner is nothing if not demanding.

LOL!

I saw the Ring cycle in Chicago years ago. I want to see a performance at Bayreuth — anything — it does not have to be the Ring cycle, in fact, I would prefer that it isn’t. I’ve seen enough Wagner in the States.

Certainly that is a very defensible position....especially if you have seen a bunch in US already1
