Simple question. Do you trust CNN as a reliable source for information

Posted on 03/27/2010 11:50:22 AM PDT by A Cyrenian

I'll be up front with you, I don't. I don't trust their judgment in providing accurate information on what is considered news.

But, do you trust Money Magazine, which I think are the same folks as http://money.cnn.com/.

What about CNN's information on sciences? Is CNN a reliable source on bring news about the sciences? I don't watch the channel so I can't say.

I'm most curious if you think Money Magazine is worth a subscription. Or do you think of the magazine the same way you think of the channel?

No...it's biased and/or omits the "rest of the story."

The most ignorant---literally--- people I know get all their news from CNN...it's on at their house 24/7.

CNN Uses Pro-Communist American to Tout Cuban Health Care
NewsBusters.org ^ | August 8, 2009 | Rich Noyes

Gail Reed

There’s something deeply wrong with journalism that scrutinizes and criticizes the institutions of free and successful nations, but produces puff pieces on the supposed achievements of totalitarian dictatorships. On Thursday, CNN aired a piece of Communist Party propaganda about how Cuba could serve as “a model for health care reform” in the United States, complete with an authoritative sound bite from an American medical expert, identified only as someone “who’s lived and worked in Cuba for decades.”

But the expert, Gail Reed, is a longtime admirer of the Cuban revolution, married to the Cuban official who served as ambassador to Grenada in the early 1980s when U.S. troops liberated the island from hardline communists who had executed the leftist Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. She's also worked at Granma, Cuba’s official communist party newspaper.

[snip]

As for Reed, she was profiled in the Miami Herald back in 1983 after she and her husband returned to Cuba after American forces liberated Grenada. She talked about the fear she felt at seeing U.S. Marines surrounding the Cuban embassy, and told the newspaper, “I feel I have a very strong identification with the Cuban revolution.”

“When I first came to Cuba in the ’70s, I was very impressed with their efforts in building a new kind of society,” Reed explained.

CNN is decent for some things, like their science section is pretty good. I’d say though if you were looking to pay money for a subscription to something, get the Wall Street Journal instead, or maybe BusinessWeek. BusinessWeek has gotten better since Bloomberg has bought them.

CNN in Spanish is very most definitely tainted..and tweaks the news to the Latin American citizens who LOVE big gov’t and social programs.

I only go to CNN when there is some sort of emergency incident or, disaster, either nationwide or worldwide, ie, airline crash, severe weather, mass shooting, or some such .

Their on-scene coverage is good since they have so many field reporters all over the world.

Otherwise FOX is my primary news source.

They don’t call it the “Commie News Network” for nuttin’!

Remember a poll a month or so ago that said Fox is now #1 most trusted name in news. I believe :)

Do you trust CNN as a reliable source for information

CNN isn't distrusted because of what they report; CNN is distrusted because of what they omit.

CNN is an agenda driven organization. Essentially a propaganda organ of the Democratic party. How often do you ever hear criticism of liberal goals, outcomes or policies? Virtually never.

Leaving bias aside for the moment, I don’t trust any of them to give me accurate information. Towards the end of the healthcare debate it was hard to find a reporter who understood that once the House voted for the Senate bill, it was going to POTUS for signature regardless of what did or did not happen to reconciliation. In another timely example of inaccurate reporting, FNC just told me three different times that the Tea Party rally in Searchlight was mere yards away from Interstate 95.

I would be careful with a term such as “trust”, that implies “belief”, which should never be given unless a proven track record has been established.

Money Magazine should be considered entertainment as it is always at least a week behind current events, CNN sort of abandoned their “news’ effort years ago and now offers viewpoint reporting, which is fine...as long as one shares their viewpoint.

Simple question. Do you trust CNN as a reliable source for information?

Simple answer: NO.

I do not trust any "news" source to be completely objective. CNN is known to have a substantial leftist slant. I will occasionally read a CNN report but I do so knowing I will be receiving information with the left slant.
