Obama Says U.S. Would Defend Israel Militarily
President Obama said yesterday the United States would defend Israel militarily if necessary against Iran, a statement that appeared to be his most explicit commitment to Israel's defense.
In an interview with Reuters, Obama said he is concerned about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's "menacing talk" about Israel, such as his comments denying the Holocaust and saying Israel should be wiped off the map.
"Israel is a solid ally of the United States. We will rise to Israel's defense, if need be. So this kind of menacing talk is disturbing. It's not only disturbing to the United States, it's disturbing for other countries in the world, as well," Obama said.
Asked whether he meant the United States would rise to Israel's defense militarily, Obama said: "You bet, we'll defend Israel."
Why does any sentient human being believe anything BO says at this point?
Does this promise have an expiration date too?
He also said he would have the most transparent...awww shit.
Because they think they'll get something for free.
Uh, ya. I always tell people my dog would defend me also.
Thank God my dog has never been tested at it.....I think we would do an Obama....(every man (dog) for himself).
I just won't break bread with any of them.
Obama’s promise and 10 new sheckels will get you a cup of coffee in Tel Aviv.
Gee, now Israel can rest easy...the Kenyan will defend them.
Like Israel really needs us to “Defend” her against Iran.
Yes and Germany signed a non-aggression pact with the USSR too.
Guys... this is a JOKE. REALLY. Here is the original (excerpt)

President Bush said yesterday the United States would defend Israel militarily if necessary against Iran, a statement that appeared to be his most explicit commitment to Israel’s defense.
In an interview with Reuters, Bush said he is concerned about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s “menacing talk” about Israel, such as his comments denying the Holocaust and saying Israel should be wiped off the map.
“Israel is a solid ally of the United States. We will rise to Israel’s defense, if need be. So this kind of menacing talk is disturbing. It’s not only disturbing to the United States, it’s disturbing for other countries in the world, as well,” Bush said.
Asked whether he meant the United States would rise to Israel’s defense militarily, Bush said: “You bet, we’ll defend Israel.”
The Jewish state sought some sort of military alliance with the United States shortly after it was founded in 1948, but was rebuffed by several presidents, partly out of fear of offending Arabs. Since then, Israel has established the principle of securing its own defense, including a nuclear deterrent, backed by large weapons sales by the United States.
Past presidents have spoken elliptically about helping Israel, a close ally, in a conflict. The United States has no military alliance with Israel, though President Bill Clinton dangled the prospect of a military alliance as part of a final peace deal, said Dennis Ross, a senior Clinton adviser on the region.
Pick any subject from lobbyist to offshore drilling.
Oh yeah, right we can believe a Muslim will defend the Jewish.
You nailed it.
After Iran Nukes Israel, Obama will say that was ‘outrageous’..
Ya gotta love today’s jokes.
You are right. Yesterday he was campaigning... today is reality.
A muslim supporting Israel?
Now, “thats a lie!”
and many caveats
If I was Israel, I wouldn’t trust the SOB in the White House with its intelligence else it might end up on Imanutjob’s blackberry!
Chock it up to that"negro" dialect when he wants it.
If indeed Obama did say such a thing the "but" would sound something like "But is will take us some time to bring our forces to bear." Meanwhile the glowing dust slowly settles to earth and silence reigns.
The troop ship arrived a month too late to make a difference, so sad, we tried.
Same thought I posted on another thread...he says one thing (or people hear what they want to hear him say and don’t really listen to what he’s saying)and then does the opposite and isn’t called out on it.
Yeah. I’m SURE Bibi is REEEEELY counting on it.
Uh oh, Oblabla’s lips moved. We know he’s lying. Good luck Israel.
Pay no attention to what Obama says. Watch what he does.
Whose says BO has no sense of humor. This is obviously an April Fool’s joke.
Expired on January 20, 2009.
“You bet, we’ll defend Israel.”
The comma is an inference by the transcriber. Obama didn’t make any promises or predictions about defense; he just suggested that the reporter make a bet on it.
