What are you doing to prepare?

Posted on 04/02/2010 5:05:17 PM PDT by Indy Pendance

Are you truly independent? Do you have the skills? Can you hunt, grow a garden, can food, sew-knit, live off the land? Are you ready? Do you possess the "lost" skills? Our family is ready. In obama's words, "bring it on". Once the economy collapses, I'll be here longer than the liberals and their pampered lives.

My only complaint on the book was the hatred of religion. He’s allowed his opinion, but that added to my general opinion that this guy doesn’t like anybody except his wife and kids.

Would Mexico be a good source for these? Or Amish / Mennonites?

I’d call Singer up directly and ask. I found a stock of such being sold at Walmart in Aberdeen Md. once for $70 brand new as if just manufactured in 1870 and what had happened was that a bunch of them had missed the boat they were supposed to be on at Baltimore harbor and one of Wallies buyers spotted them and made somebody an offer on the spot. Ask yourself how many countries might there be without reliable electricity, and then the guys out there living in yurts on the steppes still need clothing sewn too. The things are tougher than nails and could easily sew through leather, and heavy.

I don't think he hates religion per se. I think his dagger-speak is directed at the early Church and churches that have continued the tradition of perverting the Bible to create the meme that we should abandon trading value for value in some cases (which they get to prescribe).

For instance 1 Timothy 5 is actually pretty clear about how charity should be given out to widows and orphans. But the early Church comes along and sets up rules that interpret scripture to enforce what are essentially shake-downs to transfer wealth. I think that's more what he's complaining about.

These threads always crack me up. Too many people simply can't resist the urge to tell what sort of weapons they have and how much ammo. :-)

Now you KNOW that we lost "everything" in a boating accident and have only been storing beans and weenies for the coming trouble. :-) I'm telling you, beans and weenies is where it's at! :-)

Rawles is INDEED an excellent "technical" writer, but I found his fiction to be simply unbelievable in many instances. I have a copy of Patriots for the technical info though.

I highly recommend Matt Bracken's "Enemies Foreign And Domestic"...and the books following that one. It's very believable and within the realm of what we could all imagine would happen. It's not a stretch, and because of this it tends to promote correct thinking.

Salt is very inexpensive (currently) and easy to store! Too many people have the romanticized idea that they’re going to live off the land with their “hunting skills”. But they often fail to look past the butchering and ask WHAT they’re going to do with 100 lbs of meat? I don’t WANT to have to shoot something every day just to eat! That’s going to get old pretty fast. :-)

Ammo cans work well... but you have to remove the rubber seal “usually” and replace it with mesh... although I read an article about electrically connecting the top of the can to the bottom without sacrificing the seal. I haven’t tried it though. I’ve also heard of “stuff” that can replace the gasket AND provide an electrically conductive path as well...but so far have not seen it.

Red Devil Lye.

You can buy it in almost any supermarket. It should be near the liquid plumber type stuff.

WARNING!!!!!

Lye is something NOT TO BE MESSED WITH UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

It is TOXIC and EXTREMELY CORROSIVE!

ALWAYS have a gallon of vinegar nearby.

Let me re-iterate that!

One SMALL MISTAKE and it will BLIND YOU IN A HEARTBEAT!

If you want/need soap, just go buy it now and put it into storage.

You can buy like a cubic foot of soap for 5 bucks or so!
