Yeah, Barry, he totally ripped them off. He only lost his job coaching one of the nation's premiere Division I lacrosse programs, had his personal reputation destroyed by you and your fellow race hustlers and feckless liberals at the N&O, was hung out to dry by his own employer (including the Gang of 88 and portions of the Duke student body), and had to end up taking a job coaching a small college team for considerably less money. I guess that's only worth, what, $199.95 in your world?

The fact that the N&O would publish this on the day where Dookies are celebrating a hard-fought win in one of the best NCAA basketball national championship games ever, over an amazing underdog Butler team, is especially galling. I'm no fan of Duke, but good grief, you McClatchy-owned morons, let them have their day. You certainly lick Coach K's shoes every other day of the year.

Not sure you’re keeping up with these anymore, but here’s a Duke LAX ping.

There was no shortage of villains in that story; but the biggest villain as far as I was able to tell was the ordinary little jerk living in and around Durham NC who voted to return the Fong to office AFTER the whole world basically knew what had happened. THAT was inexcusable.

I would not allow any kid of mine to go to school anywhere within 50 miles of Durham NC after that. Duke University is complicit in whatever is going on in Durham NC by its not having moved since all of that and I wouldn't want anything to do with it.

I hope the coach took Dook for everything. And if he would not have won the case, Dook would never have settled out of court.

Butler was the better team too.

More BS from BS. How original?!

They seek payback, not pay
News & Observer, The (Raleigh, NC) - Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Author: Barry Saunders , Staff Writer
Only a heartless misanthrope would argue against giving something to the dear, sweet former Duke lacrosse players who have been through such an ordeal.

Why, I think one of them even spent an hour in custody — not in jail, but waiting for a magistrate to finish his lunch so daddykins could post bail.

The players are asking for $30 million. That seems a bit high for the inconvenience they suffered, but they certainly deserve some recompense. After all, the strippers they hired didn’t even finish their hootchy-kootchy dance.

How about a compromise figure? Instead of $30 million, how about a fish sandwich, a Yoo-hoo and a one-way Greyhound bus ticket?

(snip)

It seems that Barry Saunders is assuming that all of the DukeLAX accusations were true, and that the players somehow skated on a technicality. He can't quite seem to wrap his mind around the fact that there was no underlying crime.

So he is left to argue that the coach should have been terminated and slandered because his players hired a couple of strippers and, on at least one occasion, engaged in underaged drinking and public urination.

By those standards, every coach, administrator and faculty member of every college in the country should be terminated forthwith. The editors of the N&O would probably not survive the revelations about last year's Christmas Party, either...

Agree with you. Thank you for posting your comments.

I’m at Duke.. What the faculty did to this man was no less than a mob lynching party without the facts. My only problem is that much of the faculties opinions were based upon the DA providing mis-information and not doing his job.

Why would the Raleigh News and Observer print, or a Mr Barry Saunders compose such vitriol?

Full of hate and vindictiveness?

To feed resentment?

To defend Duke's bigoted faculty?

Are there vile bigots over there in R/D, or in academia?
