Portland police officer hospitalized with serious infection after pit bull bite

PORTLAND, Ore. - A Portland police officer who was bit by a pitbull during an investigation has been hospitalized after developing a serious infection.

The Oregonian reports that 33-year-old Stephen Gandy had surgery to remove part of his upper right thigh because of the infection. A spokeswoman with Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center said Friday that Gandy was in serious condition.

The story doesnt give much information.

My guess is the officer went to an emergency room for treatment and got a Staph infection at the hospital.
