I am currently writing an Op-Ed and I have been searching the internet for the now famous 1998 Missouri Democratic Party Ad that engaged in race baiting.
I know Rush use to play it so very often and I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net.
Are you talking about the Willie Horton ad?
Not the audio, but info on it.
Is that the one showing a chain dragging from the back of a pick-up, trying to say GW Bush would drag blacks to their deaths?
or something... but I think that was 2000 or 2004.
No the ad has a voice over than announces.......”When you don’t vote, you let another church explode. When you don’t vote, you allow another cross to burn. When you don’t vote, you let another assault wound a brother or sister . . . Vote smart. Vote Democratic for Congress and the U.S. Senate.
Try getting a hold of Tim Graham at the Media Research Center, he should have a copy.
right. That’s not race-baiting at all.
This one is a real bugger to find.. almost like some people wanted it hidden.
Now compare the ad which so outraged CBS with one they ignored two years ago, as recounted in the November 16, 1998 MRC newsletter, MediaWatch:
When the Missouri Democratic Party targeted blacks with a race-baiting ad in the St. Louis area, it only made it into the national spotlight on Fox News Sunday and FNCs Fox Report.
Running on local black radio stations, the ad tried to scare minority voters to the polls: “When you dont vote, you let another church explode. When you dont vote, you allow another cross to burn. When you dont vote, you let another assault wound a brother or sister. When you dont vote, you let the Republicans continue to cut school lunches and Head Start.”
Despite such inflammatory tactics, the ad didnt make a single ripple among other news shows. But Tony Snow on the November 1 Fox News Sunday challenged guest Rep. Barney Frank about the appropriateness of the ads: “Congressman, the President said that one of the hallmarks he wants to make is in civil rights, and I know that youve been actively involved in a number of civil rights issues. What I want to do is to play for you an ad thats been running in the St. Louis area, and there are also some counterparts around the country, and I want to get your reaction to it....Congressman, is that fair play?” Snow again brought up the ad in a segment with guest Paul Begala, a presidential counselor: “Is it part of the Democratic strategy to scare black voters into going to the polls?”
During the shows final roundtable discussion, Snow asked Juan Williams of The Washington Post what he thought about the ad, and Williams responded by calling it “scandalous,” “incendiary,” and “patronizing” to black voters.
I think you mean the naacp ad blaiming Bush for the dragging of James Byrd Jr. behind a pickup truck. It was 1998, but it was in Texas. Ashcroft was accused of racism in Missouri the same year though.
On his radio show today, Hannity played a radio spot from the Democrat Party of Missouri which ran in 1998. It said: When you dont vote, you let another church explode. When you don?t vote, you allow another cross to burn. Buy Danish on April 25, 2008 at 6:04 PM
In 1998, the Missouri Democratic Party ran this radio ad: “When you don’t vote, you let another church explode. When you don’t vote, you allow another cross to burn. When you don’t vote, you let another assault wound a brother or sister. When you don’t vote, you let the Republicans continue to cut school lunches and Head Start.” And the network newscast coverage? Zero.
Might ask the Black Tea Party people. Good luck finding it.
