PITTSBURGH --
A man was taken to a hospital after being attacked by his girlfriend's dog in Pittsburgh's Crafton Heights area, the city's Animal Control office said.
"The boyfriend was giving the dog a treat and then decided to take the dog treat back. That's when the incident occurred. He was bitten in the leg," said Animal Control supervisor Gerald Akrie.
The woman who owns the pit bull called Animal Control on Tuesday morning because the dog was preventing her from getting inside her Obey Street home. She only had the dog for a short period of time before it attacked the man on Monday.
"Last night, when we got there, the victim and the owner of the dog already went to the hospital, so there was no one there for us to remove the dog. We just couldn't go right in and take it, but first thing this morning, she called us and said, 'Hey, I'll meet you at the house,' because she was afraid to go back into the house," said Akrie.
Akrie said a relative gave the pit bull to the couple about a week before the incident, adding that the animal was euthanized on Tuesday morning at the request of its owner.
"The dog was very protective, very aggressive toward Animal Control officers, but we were able to get the dog and take it to the shelter," said Akrie.
Neighbor Herb Schindler watched from across the street as officers removed the dog.
"He was putting up a heck of a battle," said Schindler. Akrie said an autopsy was done to make sure the dog did not have rabies.
The pet's owner declined an interview with WTAE Channel 4 Action News.
Okay, this may come as a shock to everyone who follows my Pit Bull threads... but this time, I have to side with the Pit Bull!
Wow, a Pit Bull story. What a surprise.
I had no idea a pitt bull would ever do such a thing....I mean, they’re such nice dogs, y’know..../s
I want a Pit Bull story where the PB bites the leg of a Mormon Missionary who is campaigning door to door for Duncan Hunter 2012 and tries to defend himself against the Pit Bull with a Sarah Palin for President yard sign and stumbles into the street where he is hit by a car with a Ron Paul 2000 bumper sticker.
Then you would have the perfect Free Republic thread.

Not quite.
The Pit Bull would have to have a forged Certificate of Live Birth and a missing and/or highly questionable personal history, along with a ghost written best seller and be married to a Wookie.
Oh, Crap!
You pre-empted by diatribe on the manifest stupidity of someone who would try to take a treat away from *any* animal with a mouth full of kitchen knives.
That is not the perfect Free Republic thread.
That is possibly the start of the greatest movie ever, even better than Airplane and Blazing Saddles..
WOW! another let’s kill all the pit bull people. What a surprise.
I do it all the time, haven’t been bitten yet.
His ignorant owners were following about 20 feet behind, but because of the heavy brush and winding path, didn't know anyone else was around.
The local Gendarmes were informed, I hope they took the lot of 'em to county.
Half the stories about dogs misbehaving can probably be attributed to the dogs interacting with stupid people or unattended children.

The first one made me cry.
That guy was really breaking up.
It’s one thing to save your own family member, it’s another to save a stranger.

[I wonder if he gave up bull fighting? I hope so. It’s cruel beyond belief]
